And will you be showin up in Navasota in this rig? hehe I could take pictures and post them......

Yep, he'll be showing up in Navasota with it. I could put USDA/TDA Market News Reporter and his contact info on the back window in window chalk so you'd know for sure which belonged to him....b/c there are SO many minivans at the sale.

hmmm lets see...walkin distance to the sale barn....only place I know of that you could park is at the vets office on the hill :P

OK I will get Pete to pick me up (auctioneer). He lives just East of me. When I was trainning to do market reports for the USDA we rented a PT Cruiser to go to some of the sale barns in NM. Boy we looked really funny parking around a bunch of 18 wheelers.     Then on our way back to Amarillo we just about ran out of gas in the middle of no where at 11:00pm. It made me really nervous about taken this job.

Lets see my take on minivans-I've driven close to half a million miles in the three I've owned between hockey and packing cowboys. It really struck home last year at a rodeo-my little van load of roughies had pulled $2,000 out of a rodeo-we were packing up watching the $50,000 diesels pulling $60,000 slant loads with living quarters and $0 money won pulling out. I admit it's funner drving my Cummins to rodeos but it's good business to van it-heck the Etbauer's do it. Besides it's not the size of the van in the fight it's the size of the fight in the van.

maybe for some of those driving the new pickups and pulling the trailers that are nicer than most peoples homes, winning 3, 4, $500 is probably not that important to them. they got the money, probably riding a head horse or calf horse they have no buisness owning....but they can so they do. rodeoing is probably just a hobby, not a way to make money.

Express Ranches flies Billy Etbauer to most of his events, and puts him up in a motel the night before. The Etbauer boys may have done it in the past...but I bet they don't any more LOL Holly Etbauer, runs at alot of the same big shows that we go to. They are usually 3 or 4 day events. Aint seen a mini van pullin a bumper pull yet at any of these shows. Have seen a few bumper pulls...usually a handful outta 1200 entries, but none bein led by a mini van LOL. And alot of the gals that are pullin those slant loads with the nice livin quarters in em....have put those livin quarters in themselves. Buy a nekid trailer, and do it yourself. That's a big thing with alot of these girls. They'll do all the work themselves, with their trailer sittin in their driveway. And when they are done with it, it's very nice lookin. Not all of em spend that kinda money on a trailer. And I"m sure some of the ropers, and doggers have done the same thing with their trailer. And if they are seriously into rodeo'n. That trailer may be the only "home" that person spends any time in.

Well I've seen too many 800 dollar horses jump out of $80,000 rigs-I feel sorry for some kids-Mom and Dad spend all the money on the rig and won't mount the kid to be competitive. Trust me we've lived in the minivan-what I'm getting at is Billy Etbauer earned his way to the top.

I know what your gettin at. And yes, I agree, the Etbaurs have earned it. There's also nothin wrong with an $800 horse. Ya never know how much a horse costs, or what it can do. Turn around, and look at the one's that drag a $100,000 horse outta the trailer. They don't always perform good either.

Take for instance Charmayne James and her Scamper horse who was a six year-old feedlot horse, Gill's Bay Boy, bought for $1200.

Then there's the one's that pull up in an old beat up bumper pull....it's the same story, you don't know what that horse can do. He/She may go in and whoop everyone's butt.

But just because they drive a nice rig, doesn't mean at some point n time they haven't earned it. Maybe they haven't "earned it" in the arena with winnin checks. But maybe that kid that those parent's haul around has worked their tail off to get where they are, and the parent's feel they deserve it.

I'm not sayin all of em have either. But ya just can't judge a book by it's cover.
