This little guy was one of the first ones born..... inside a steel building, one of those half circle quonsets with a cement floor...but bedded, when it got down to 27 below. I don't know if the cow stepped on his nose and it also froze or what, but noticed it was plugged with mucus when he was a couple days old. So anyway, I took a stick :???: and cleaned it out and also got some bone fragments out as well, but noticed a few days ago he looked like this:

Didn't seem to hurt his appetite.

About the middle of the night last night, this cow had about a 65 lbs. heifer calf, and then laid back down and didn't do anything else. I got them in the barn and checked her...sure enough had another calf in her. Backwards steer, and probably 30+ pounds heavier.

Had a few like that, got to hurt! Have a new pup and in the heat of winter heard some whinning from outside, low and behold our new friendly pup's toungue was stuck to the door, a quick run for hot water.........too late a shredded toungue but now all is well.

Hope the market doesn't beat on the short nose too bad.

We had that happen many, many years ago, cow calved in the bush on a very cold night. The nose had froze and peeled off in time. We called it "The Pig", and every other calf shunned it because it looked different. Don't bother trying to sell it, put it in your freezer when it's big enough.

Maybe we can make him a new nose out of something and glue it on him before he goes to the sale barn....because it's probably even more valuable than the tail and ears!!!
