Lot'sa ways to handle livestock

I was going to put a smart remark here, but I changed my mind. 8)

Boy it took some reading to catch up on this topic! You guys have been having quite a scrap! :D :D :D

I realize that in different parts of the country, things are done different ways, but there is one principle that applies everywhere. We all have a responsibility to give our livestock decent humane treatment.

I do understand that bad cows can bring out the worst in people, but that's no excuse for abuse. The answer however is very simple. When that rope went on that cow, it should have had the other end attached to a trailer. Problem solved. Life is too short to put up with high headed fence jumping cows.  I have had my own 'near death experience' with the business end of an eighteen hundred pound very angry cow. I know how bad they can be. :?

Sorry AZ, as much as I enjoy stories of your ways of doing things in Arizona, I can't agree on this one. I'm quite surprised farnkly to hear that the cow changed her attitude. Bad cows we've seen over the years tended to only get worse with time. Never ever saw one get nice.

I guess I'm just a bucket feeding farmer in your eyes, but I'll put my 200 cows up against your 75 as a qualifier. Then toss in the four or five thousand feeders that have passed through our yard over the years for good luck.

Up here we differentiate between cowboys and cattlemen. Cowboys use cattle as a reason to work with horses, and cattlemen use horses (sometimes) as tools to work with their cattle. :!:

CUT IT OUT NOW

This has gotten out of hand and it's time to stop before everyone is out to hanf everyone else.

Sure AZ has thrown gas on the flames just as a lot of others, specifically looking at the very FIRST POST. It started there and has gone downhill since.

It is past picking sides and the way we handle cattle, it is way past that here.

So let's cut it now, this is not the way for RANCHERS.NET folk to behave.

Be the bigger person and not have to have the last word.

Hey AZ: I've worked alongside my fair-share of fellers like you, and I've learned alot...y'all have taught me to 'Build to it' an' do whatever it took to stick with it...

Everyone else: not 'bashing' anyone here, but if y'all have never done a 'tour of duty' on the bigger outfits who TYPICALLY go through young bucks like us, then ya just don't know where we're comin' from, or why we say and do the things we do. It ain't a shortcoming...and it's not that we're 'better' than anyone else...we're simply doing what we do.

I completed Marine Corp. Basic training at Paris Is....and ended up serving my active duty in the Air Force...

...I never 'strutted my stuff' while in the Air Force because...well, it was the 'Air Force' and NOT the US Marine Corp.

Marines have that 'strut' because they've earned it...you'll never get a chance to SEE them earn it...but trust me...they DO.

Cowpunchers go through hell to get thier jobs done....ACCEPT it...and thier 'Idiosyncracies'...the same way they (quietly ?) accept the methods of working cows up north, and points east...

Finally: Ranching is a MAN'S profession...it's great to know that there's a fair-share of Women getting the job done, and holding down the fort in supporting thier husbands 'ranching ventures'...but those few among you who feel the need to strut YOUR stuff, might benefit from readin' the Bible, and learnin' where YOUR 'place' is in the grand scheme of things.

Y'all just let us MEN be MEN here, and follow through with your own responsibilities.

Not 'my' personal view here...it comes from the Good Lord Himself, written in sand-stone LONG before there were ever cowboys, cowpunchers, buckaroos, vaquero's or WHATEVER...

'course...when I think of it, if it WAS'NT for your 'big sister' ('Eve') takin' the first bite outta' that apple...I'd hafta think that cowboyin' would be mighty 'boring' right now...

...some 'food' for thought...maybe...

   O MY!!! I don't know if I should laugh or smack my forehead

Me thinks it was just a "penis with feet" moment. Men seem to have them from time to time. :D I guess that is why they need us around to take care of them :)

Is it just me or did someone go pee pee in the ranchers.net cereal bowl??? Everyone one seems rather "Franky" to me :)
