Our daughter is still looking for a little tractor for her acreage. The last one
I asked about on ranchers.net was gone when she was going to look at it.
She has found another one that looks good. It is a Mahindra, 140 hours
and 42hp. It has a loader and is a FWA and looks nice. She isn't sure of the
year. It is on consignment for $14,000. If we find it is a fairly good tractor
she will go look at it and try to buy it for less, if possible.

Please comment. I will try and get a picture of it from her email to here,
but I've never done that.

That's what her dad asked her. She got online and found out they come
from Texas. This one is in Torrington, Wy so she best look into the
service part of things. Thanks for the reminder, cedarcreek.

Ok, I checked. The nearest dealers to her are quite aways away...
Cheyenne, Wy; Havre, Mt; and Ft. Collins, Co. Not impossible but
not real handy either.

two of the stables that we deliver hay to have mahindra tractor's, about that size, both people are VERY happy with them. tough life and several different operator's . haven't heard of any down time with either one in the five and three years respectively that we have had them as customers.

they have been around for quite some time. built a copy of the ihc B275 and B414 that were very well respected

they seem to be relatively simple to operate and maintain, not a lot of electrical gadgets etc.

Mahindra tractors are built in India. They build a lot of them and I have heard some good things about them. The ex in-laws have one and like it. I wouldn't buy one because of the lack of service here.

No matter what color she buys. My advice is to make sure she gets a hydrostatic transmission. Those little tractors are handier than a pocket knife. But they tend to eat clutches. I think every time I have been to my local dealerships (100 miles away) there is a little tractor in the shop, getting a clutch job. My uncle has a little Ford that is used mainly to clean corrals and usually every year, we unzip it and put a clutch in it.

As for Mahindra tractors there is a pile of them in this valley as we have a sales outlet in town. Seem like good little tractors. Don't see come up for sale often.

I would check the horse power to tractor size at one point the 65 and 45 horse tractor used same running gear. Several of the owners around here compared the 45 horse to running a 1 ton dually with a 4 cylinder motor.

What year of tractor are you talking about, Pat? I'm sure going to
pass this along. Is there a chance that would have been corrected?
I'm not sure the year of the tractor she is looking at.

Thanks, everyone for your replies. They really helped when we knew
nothing about those tractors.

FH, here's a link to the two Mahindra forums at Tractorbynet. It's one of the better tractor forums for the little tractors. If she knows the model number, she can look for more information on the one she is looking at, such as value, specific problems with a model, etc.

There's usually some pretty good tractor techs over there that can talk her through almost any type of problem that she might have with one.

Once she has the model number, she can check it out at Tractordata for specs like weight, engine, transmission, etc. Some models even have tractor test data with tested horsepower, fuel consumption, etc.
