I thought some of you might like to see what I use to make grazing for January, February and some of march.

Chaff, straw and grain. The combine is from the late 90's and has 2300 hrs on it. Has a Jones buncher under it. (like a pitch fork that dumps automatically) Once the grass is done it is a cheap way to feed.

Sorry BMR, I was lamenting about the new six more inches of snow and a -20 C north wind and got to day dreaming about warmer times. Well one thing led to another and I found myself looking at pictures of September (very warm) and voila, I ruined your day with iron.

we have a jones buncher, too. last fall is the first we used it but it sure made for some cheap fall feeding right into winter. we supplemented with some alfalfa when it got real cold. we put it on a neighbor's combine, put up a single wire and ran dry cows on it. the secret is to find a cooperative neighbor with an old, worn conventional combine. they get something for the grain they are throwing over and we get cheap grazing.

Dang it per. Now you went and spoiled it. We're all supposed to be romantical cowboys and you go and bring a combine into the mix.

he's just jealous Per........cuz he's probably still using a sythe......... :)

what is the model of that head? I'm trying to find a 25' grain platform for an 8560 MF the hookups are the same from 8560 to 8570. I currently have a mf 30' but can't get a new sickle for it.

It is a 9224. I have been looking for a draper header. Have been told that a newer header adapter for a CIH would fit the MF rotary but haven't confirmed that yet. If I do that of course this one might be for sale. As far as bunch baling, you miss the chaff but it does make the straw available in deep snow or drifting snow. If that is not an issue you are right, a waste of diesel.

Thanks for the info. I thought most people in Canada swathed and picked up the windrows instead of straight cutting.

80% straight cut, 20% swath in my area. Some years though it has to all be swathed so we all own swathers.
