Hello. This is my first post here.

Does anybody out there own a McCall saddle? I just ordered a Lady Pendleton and sure hope I made a good choice. I have a high withered Saddlebred who is pretty narrow all the way around. I wanted to buy something that would outlast me. ( I just do some trail riding around my place - no roping or anything). Unfortunately there aren't many tack shops in the SC area for western gear. I went to Asheville, NC to look at the saddle and get my boy fitted. It seemed to fit him perfectly.

My fingers are crossed!

What do ya'll think?
Thanks.

I never owned a McCall, but they have a good reputation,I believe we have a Lady here that rides one.
wyoming Rancher, she will comment,if she see this.
good luck & welcome to ranchersnet

Yep, that's the exact saddle I have from McCalls, and I love it! :D My only complaint is the cantle is a little too high for me, and can smack me in the back if my horse stops hard. Enjoy!

Thanks! I ordered it 2 weeks ago so only 14 more weeks to go before it should be here. It's hard to wait that long but I guess I'll just try to keep myself occupied with a little orchard work- or maybe I'll finally get started on that fencing I've been putting off for so long.

Where in SC are you? I know there are 2 saddle shops just south of Pineville. There is another in Indianland. If you contact your local 4H they will tell you when the big shows are and they all have saddlemakers. If all else fails go to the District show at Latta Plantation the first part of may.
Welcome to the board

I have a McCall Wade that I ordered with the full quarter horse bars; the saddle doesn't fit some of the leaner, more thoroughbred-type horses very well (full quarter horse bars, and all....), but the fit on our flatter-backed, bigger-bodied horses is excellent. I understand from other folks that use these saddles that the regular quarter horse bars fit most horses.

I've seen plenty of McCalls, and they are very nice saddles; they are well-made with top-quality, heavy duty materials and, from all the production-made saddles I have seen, they come the closest in quality to a custom made saddle. I'm very happy with mine.

Thanks for the responses. I'm glad to hear the positive reactions. I ordered the lady pendleton in the semi quarters bars. We tried one on him and it seemed to fit him perfectly. I guess I was a bit nervous after having spent such a Chunk of change. I feel reassured and am looking forward to breaking it in. I just hope it gets in before the 100 degree weather comes on!

I am in Fairfield County for the person who asked where in SC I am. That's about twenty miles north of the capital city of Columbia.

Those saddles are pretty easy to break in, too, especially if you get the
'Idaho Twist' on the stirrups.

Kings Saddlery in Sheridan, Wy is an old Saddle Shop and McCall
Saddles are one of the only production-made saddles they will carry.
I'm sure you will be very happy with it, and so will your horse.

I'm on week number nine now still waiting for my saddle. I've been waiting so long I lost my mind and bought another horse in
the mean while. Finally got that draft horse I've been wanting for ages. She's a nine year old Suffolk punch about 17 hands and 1800 lbs. I better start saving to feed her this winter. She is quite the mare!
