Had a nice shower pass through on early Saturday morning, so I spent some time just driving around and checking cows from the road. Beautiful cool, May morning and the cattle seemed to be enjoying it too.

Nice and comfortable after the late spring shower

Once again, I took most of these with my blackberry and it doesn't have a zoom, so sorry for some of the pictures. But I hope you enjoyed the Saturday morning drive as much as I did.

Thanks Soapweed. I was certainly inspired to post by the various journeys that you have taken us through the Nebraska Sandhills.

We went to eastern Kansas for the weekend to take care of grandkids :D . Flint Hills were real pretty with cows all belly deep in what appeared to be a Fescue grass. The wheat was good most of the way, and looked promising. So much can happen before a combine gets there, but maybe a good year it looked like. We need rain here in eastern Colo.

I think the wheat has the potential to be really good this year. There is a touch of rust in it but I don't think it's going to have a huge effect on yield. The weather forecast shows mostly upper 80's and low 90's for the next week, and if that holds true we will be cutting wheat before we know it.

Looks like a great start to your grazing year; enjoyed the pictures and your families website. It's nice to pick up the family history......even nicer to follow the breeding program of a Hereford breeder! Kind of did a double take on your talk of wheat harvest coming up......much of the wheat up here (Saskatchewan) hasn't even been planted yet......too wet! Usual planting time in this country is mid May with a Sept. harvest. There's a lot of seeding plans being changed and a lot of nervous farmers........however it is great for growin grass & hay!

Glad you enjoyed the pictures Cowsense. All the wheat down here in Kansas is winter wheat, usually start drilling wheat in mid-Sept and harvest in June. We've had similar issues getting the dryland corn and beans in down here, with planting being extended longer than we would have liked due to the abundant moisture that we've had. Fortunately, I think that all we have left to seed is some forage sorghum that we will put up as silage. Nice to see the end, cause just like you said - lot's of nervous people around when they can't get in the field.
