Memory Foam

Judith....you are just a well of information........information I might add that brought tears to my eyes I was laffin so hard.

Jinglebob, I'm so glad Mr Lilly doesn't get on here and read. We've had that Dadblasted waterbed since........well he got it in 1982 (two years before we got married) and it's still here!!! I hate it. Wanted so bad for it to get to leave with the old waterbed matress when it left. But it didn't. Please no......I do NOT want another type bed that requires a frame like this........I"m ready to use this thang for firewood.
If it came down to it tho, and I only had a choice between a memory foam mattress in this frame. or nothin....I'd put it in this same old frame I"m sure.

I have loved our Posture Pedic bed (king size) since we got 'er about 3 years back, but now I wake up sore and achey in my shoulders and neck....my co-workers says try one of those "memory pillows" before switching beds!! Hmmmmmm....sounds good and CHEAP to me! Then, last night I saw on TV that the typical "traditional" mattress will DOUBLE it's weight in 10 years because of DUST MITES!!!!!!!!!  Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!!!!!! They also say that the temper-pedic beds will not allow the colonization of dust mites because of the material they are made of!! Sounds pretty good to me!!

DUST MITES?!?!?! :o  :o  :o

:???:

We used the Nova form topper for a couple years, then bought the Novoform mattress from Costco for $650. It has 9 inches of dense foam and 3 inches of memory foam. Its quite a bit cheaper than the Tempur pedic. I notice that a lot of regular mattress manufacturers are now incorporating memory foam on some of their models.

Jersey,
Memory foam is fantastic for sleeping on . Please note the operative word is sleeping. For other activities they put a horrible strain on the wrists, knees etc. Trust me having the wrists bent back at a 90 degree angle for extended periods of time is not pleasant. Kind of a mood killer Of course this is just something I have heard about , rumors, gossip stuff like that  (of course you all were thinking it, I was just the only one brave enough to give the poor woman all the important facts) :)
OMG..girl,this time YOU made me shot coffee through my nose.

Rumors,gossip stuff...mmmhhh

I remember the days when my waterbed had white caps on it!

I'm glad we got rid of it years ago. I would hate to hear it referred to as the "Dead Sea" today!

I love my waterbed! Nothing better than crawling back into it after I've been out checking cows at 40 below! The heat warms me right back up.

I have slept in waterbed once or twice... I don't think it is for me.. Have slept in beds that are like canoes when you get in to them or hammoks.. You are always in the middle.. Those are heck on backs... I kind of like a nice firm mattress...And no pillow top please... Again, great for a night or two don't like them after more than that as my body starts to react to them with back spasms.... Getting that worked on, two many collisions with me and terra firma over the years have left me a little worse for wear.

When we were first married my dad gave us a waterbed for gift....loved it until I was 8 months preg. with my son and literally got stuck in it and could NOT get out, thank goodness greg was just outside working horses and not on a twelve hour shift. He helped me out but still kills himself laughing about me crying my eyes out, telling him to help me. He didn't laugh until I was out.

"" That Shelly - hurt my back on a bare-back horse way back when
(in truth it was more like how he got me off)
The HEAT of the Water Bed helped my back for years.

A few years back I started sleeping in a Recliner - Hell On the sex Life but No More Back Troubles - Love to Spoon but after 2 or 3 days it's Back to the Recliner

Note:
The Water Bed and it's "Movement of the Ocean" was Great for My ""Ego""!
I was the Object of Many Jokes like:

"King Size Ships" - Enjoy The View
"Kayak Tours" - Feel The Movement

OMG!!!!!!! I had the same thing happen to me when I was pregnant with the soon-to-be 11 year old!! We had a super-single waterbed and I was putting on my shoes for work when i slipped off of the edge of the waterbed into the depths of the "ocean"......hubby danged near herniated himself laughing at me while i tried to "rock" myself outta the bed!!! Least to say, when I finally managed to convince him to help me out of there, I gave him an earful!!! :lol2: :lol2:

JB, are they hot in the summer?

Same as any, except waterbed.

When we had a waterbed, on a hot dayt I would come in at noon and pull all the covering off and lay on the matress it's self. It would freeze you out, after a bit. :)

They don't take a frame, just a support underneath, like the water beds do.

They will sell you one, but it's pretty high priced, considering it's just interlocking plastic. We bought a regular sized one and they made me take it. They said you had to have one. Shoot, you could set it on the floor or even a reular frame, if the frame had a sliod covering. I'd always wanted a captains bed with drwers so when we decidd to get a bigger bed, we just had one made and told them what we were doing so we didn't have to buy the set up.

The mall in Rapid City now has a store that sells these beds (kind'a high, it seems to me like, but about the same as a decent regular mattress they say) so you can go in and lay on one. Hey, if they are good enough for Paul Harvey, they are good enough for me.

Two waterbed stories.

We had the kind without baffels. I was really sick with the flu. I was leaning over the edge of the bed, upchucking into a bucket and the spasms were so fierce and continuous that I was causing huge tidal waves. The mrs. was laughing soooooo hard. It made me mad and I told her, "I hope someday your sick and doing this and I can laff at you." She claimed she was laughing at the waves and I suppose she was, but at the time.......... not so funny.

Some of the local women were visiting one time and got to talking about waterbeds and marital relations. One asked on the comment by another, about a "tidal wave" and wanted to know what came after that. Another woman who had just been listening piped up and said, "Ecstasy!" with a big grin on her face.

As I remember, and this has been many moons ago, you sort of had to "go with the flow".

We've had a select comfort for about 6 years. My wife has back problems and it's the only bed she can get comfortable in. We bought another one last year so now have one for the guest room. So company can enjoy them also.
It took me a while to get used to it, and I still miss the old waterbed with baffles. Like Shelly said if you're freezing just jump in the old waterbed and it's like a hottub.
We have an electric blanket to prewarm the select comfort but don't use it very often. I just went to Menards and bought some laminated boards and some plywood and made a simple bed frame and headboard for less then $100. Looks good and does the job. Course here on the res---most people don't expect to see really fine furniture.

LOL JB...one time greg stayed out with the boys later then he really should have, crawled into the waterbed, the combination of heat{which had been turned up quite high for the occasion} and the Mrs. rocking the bed sent him heaving....Wicked cackle from Mrs.Greg :pretty:
