The paper has been full of announcements and proclamations about financial help for agriculture. Well we got a cheque this week. I ran intomy neighbor and I bet him my cheque was smaller-he farms 2,000 or so acres and we have 200 and some cows. well his was a grand total of $214 and mine rolled in at a cool $133. They might of just sent us both a lump of coal lol.

Don't doubt it a bit.

I got $4 per head for disaster aid (drought) last year.

Found out later that it took more money in admininstrative costs to distribute the checks than we actually got.

If we ran our businesses like governments are run, we'd all be starving.

Exactly Mike. What would be better though, is if Governments were run as businesses, and people actually had to be held accountable for their mistakes, or even - dare I say - fired? Isn't it sad that we find it hard to imagine a public servant getting fired? But I can certainly think of a few on our side of the border that are just a leech on society.

I've been all over Canada but not been to this area I ask about. I saw the battle river in your stats and it reminded me of a Hereford bull I tried researching awhile back. There is a line of Hereford cattle called Ribstone and I was curious to know where the name came from as noone I have asked could tell me. I was searching the net for "Ribstone" and learned of this creek/river whatever it is and asumed that is where the name came from. The bull was Ribstone Domino Lad 1G born in 1952 and the first bull to have Ribstone in a Hereford animals name - I don't know who raised him but he sired a line of cattle I think a lot of. Domino Standard DP lad the 45th, DP Britisher AGA 46E which are all behind most of the good moderate framed, moderate birth weight, and good doing Hereford cattle I have seen.

Do you know of any Hereford breeders that may have lived in that area?

There's some now - Stuart & Cathy Crone, Crone Herefords. They have some good cattle, just east of us across the river. I think Stuart may even still be on the board of the Alberta Hereford Assoc. If anyone would know, he probably would.

I guess I was at their place when they had their very first bull sale at home with I think it was pyramid herefords. Pretty good cattle - lots of old Jim Hole breeding in that herd if I remember right. I guess I didn't realize that was close to the area this Ribstone creek was - I'll have to ask.

Mike I am surprised by the way you talk on here that you would even accept a goverment hand out....But then to also complain about how little it was, shocked me even more.....Funny how somethings work around here...

What's really 'funny' is how some of you can't differentiate between a taxpayer wanting to get some of his own money back and a taxsucker that never does anything but take from the government. That's what is really 'funny.' :???:

I should have added...

BUT...I won't get into it with you about it in Ranch Talk.

Here's a thread where we can discuss it, though.

Read again. My main point was the total inefficiency of goverments in general.

Cattle groups here were pushing everyone to sign up, saying that the row crop folks would continue to get all the re-distributed tax money if we didn't show an interest in it.

Guess what!!!!!!!! The money we got is taxable!!!!!!!!!
