RFI is definitely more useful than F:G because RFI accounts for differences in maintenance requirements where F:G does not. Also unlike F:G, RFI is independent of ADG so you can select for efficiency and gain performance independent of one another. It should allow you to still select for efficiency in maternal cattle that probably won't be incredible gaining cattle. There's a lot we don't yet about the long term selection effects of RFI, so its important to select animals that fit your environment, program and goals first then select for efficiency within that group.
