Last night about 12:30 the phone rang, it was a Canada Custom officer that commutes past our place coming and going to work. We had horses out on the highway. While we always appreciate that someone takes time to call when they see we have stock out, it seems they alway get out after dark. My daughter and I get up and dressed up warm and take off to find them. They were just down the road a bit more then a mile from where they got away. We got them turned around and headed for home with just one detour into the wrong pasture. They came for oats and got going back down the road again. I got ahead with the truck and Britt followed on foot so they didn't turn around. Well they ran back in the gate they came out and I realized I had missed shutting the gate when I let the horses into that part. It's a gate that I never open but the neighbors go through with cattle a couple times a year to avoid a mean hill on the highway. We had to string a winch strap across the gate while we ran back to the house to get a bar to chip the gate picket loose. It only took a hour or less but it was a chilly night.
Luckily it was better outcome that H had in the fog.

Yep- a little chilly to be chasing horses or fencing... I see the chill factor at Plentywood this AM was -41... Made the -21 here feel plumb balmy....

just like around here..if somethin' is gonna go wrong, it'll always happen at night or when we're gone :? glad it ended well for you and the horses :)
