Mineral Build-up in Stock Tanks

I have a couple of 750 gallon drinker tanks for cattle fed by a float valve, the problem is that the water here is so hard that I'm getting extreme mineral build-up on the valve arm causing it to lock in either the open or closed position. I've tried scraping the build-up away, but this is only a temporary fix at best. Does anyone know of a way to get rid of the minerals so the float works the way its supposed to and won't affect the water for the cattle?

Google,,, Dupont Krytox Grease. It holds up well in water and is non toxic.

Something to consider.
