Well, last winter, in late march ,me and a friend were coming home from snowmobiling. My dog buster was sitting on the driveway, a good two meters from the road. He was waiting for us to come and give him a treat. A car was speeding down the grid road. She was doing much more than the 80 kph speedlimit. We were doing it on the snowmobiles and she passed us. shje swerved and hit the dog. My dog. The dog I raised form a puppy. The puppy I saved when he fit in my hand. The best friend I ever had. The friend I could walk with all day, tell him all my problems, and have him cuddle up beside me on the porch and fall asleep, only to be woken up with him bugging me for a treat. The dog I taught to work cattle.
As the car was coming, Buster stood up, I could see the twinkle in his eyes as he wagged his tail, waiting for me to give him a hug. I saw the car swerve, and hit him. As I watched the last bi of life drain from my best frien'd eyes as I held him in my arms. The woman came back and gave me her card, told me to keep my dog from running onto the road. He was on our DRIVEWAY. she drove onto OUR property and killed my dog. She gave me her card and told me I was going to pay damages for her fancy car. I took my helmet off, and held my Buster. I looked in her eyes and said, "look what you did. You just killed the best friend I ever had, and had the guts to say you were driving below the speed limit, and he ran onto the road. Some day this will come back to haunt you, and it may not be me doing it." "I was driving below the limit, I was only doing 60." "Bull $h*t. We were doing 75 on our sleds and you flew past us. now get out of my sight, you already did enough. I held him in my arm and put my helmet on. My friend helped me get him to the abck pasture. We buried him there, after a goodbye, and one last treat with him.
This weekend I am going out of town to play ball. My parents don't know this yet, but I am going to look at a new puppy for everyone. he won't be my buster, but I am sure it will be a great dog some day, none the less.
I just had to say it, we brought it up in a conversation today in school about our pets...
