If I want to feel trivial, useless, & insignificant, I find a registered breeder to talk to! Their "world of cattle" and mine are sure different. Problem is, making the commercial sector profitable when the Registered guys don't relate. Just my humble opinion. I've read through all the posts on this subject. I've used 6595 for a long time and like his daughters, their dispositions, etc. There were some issues touched on with In Focus. What are his problems? His sons sure top sale reports.

Yep-- some of the sales I've been at this year I thought the In Focus sons and daughters were the best ones there...My son has an In Focus daughter that is one of the thickest, deepest, moderate framed, very quiet of any on the place...
The only negative things I've heard about In Focus was that he sometimes thru a little extra white- and have seen a couple of claims that some had problems with his sons having a breeding problem- in not being able to extend their penis's....

I just bought an In Focus son to use on heifers. If he gets them bred, I won't be able to find one fault with him. Great disposition, good looking bull.
There is a purebred outfit I know of that during spring branding, if a calf comes thru with white in front of the navel, they burn it off with the branding iron. Takes care of that "little" problem!

"I kept cuttin' back till she was profitable, then she died." A quote from an old neighbor guy.

I realize I'm in the minority here, but not all commercial guys are real peaches to deal with either, I'll take a guess here and say you don't buy bulls from the same guy more than once or twice?

I don't get that feeling talking to the purebred folks. If anything they go out of their way for my business. I use the same guys over and over. We inspect each others cows and play golf together. I think a relationship is very important when shopping for livestock. You can do it with out one, but it is easier and more fun with one.

Thanks for that Per, I agree, repeat customers are very important

I don't have a tie to any one breeder. I look at genetics. Who has what to offer and what I need. There are very few long time breeders in my area. Most jumped on the bandwagon 15- 20 years ago. Their sales are sort of "bull of the month" type or they are what I call "disciples" of a bigger breeder. I have never had a breeder ask to look at my cattle and offer opinions.
I've even asked for opinions! Bought from one place for years and I started having trouble with birth weights of the calves. Had C-sections, major problems . I tried to talk to them and they told me they didn't need my business any more. I believe in treating someone the way I would want to be treated. Nothing more, nothing less.

I told Peach that the reason most ranchers retire is so they can play golf. They don't play golf so they can walk, it's because they want to ride around in the golf cart. Since we have a Polaris Ranger, we can have the fun of riding around in a golf cart and still keep right on ranching.  :-)

I keep a 9 Iron and and a 5 gallon pail of balls in my ranger. Aim for water troughs or trees or what ever. I would be willing to try skeet ball shooting with NR. Two years ago I burnt up our 4WD tractor. As it was burning I had the presence of mind to rescue my big cresent and 9 Iron.

Hey per, are you looking forward to the Masters? My favorite week of the whole year for watching golf. I DVR the whole thing and watch every minute of it. Agusta National, one of the prettiest places on earth. :D

I sooo would like to go down and see it in person. Don't seem to have time to watch much but my retired dad keeps me up to date and l watch the highlights on Video on Demand TSN. It is a spectacular course and brings the best out in those golfers. I plan on a round in Augusta and Pebble beach before I kick.

NR in action???

I would be in for that for sure. We might not want to do that in the city though. Talk about mixing two good sports. :D

Per you need to know someone who knows someone to play at Agusta. You can only get on if a member invites you to play. Pebble Beach on the other hand is a public course. What say you and me each take our $400 and go play it some time.
