I'm not an Atlanta fan- but I thought it was kind of neat for an old Montana boy to do good....He played football at Carroll College (Helena) where his dad has been the head coach for years...My son attended a couple of his Dads football clinics...His uncle used to be our High School Head Coach, but is now the Defensive Coach......Good old former Butte family, I believe--that believes any day that Notre Dame plays should be a national holiday   ....

Petrino to coach Atlanta Falcons

By PAUL NEWBERRY
AP Sports Writer

ATLANTA (AP) -- Bobby Petrino received plenty of offers during his four years as Louisville coach. Finally, he got one worth taking.

The Atlanta Falcons lured Petrino away from the college ranks on Sunday, moving quickly to find a new head coach after firing Jim Mora.

I saw that he got hired by the Falcons... Think I would have stayed in Louisville when you look at the success rate of college coaches going to the pros... In Colelge you are the GM, coach, agent and mom and dad all rolled into one person... In the pros... You can't even keep guys from going to night clubs the day after their house gets raided and they are arrested for parole violation on weapons charges.....

I think there are alot of coaches out there who would take that job, especially with the bonus of coaching Michael Vick. A talent like that doesn't come along very often, and I think with a different system and coach, Atlanta could do big things.

I don't know... Micheal Vick has shown very little development in his time in this league... Very little... Vince Young and Jay Cutler showed more this year than he did and they were simply rookies.. Vick is an incredible talent but the more I see of him the more I think of players like Bobby Douglas.. Running backs playing quarter back.... Incredible arm, don't get me wrong but he is hit and miss where he throws the ball, makes bad reads and decisions for someone who has been in the league as long as he has.. In this league I don't think you want your QB running for 1000 yards.. Means he is looking to run too darn much..

I am starting to agree with Jim Mora Sr.'s assessment from this year... Coach killer.. So much talent but the results...not so much... Starting to hear some other analyzts grumbling about him down here too...

A lot of bad NFL jobs out there right now (All though the salary is right)... Arizona, Oakland (disaster ownership) Miami (old team, good weather at least).. Who else.. Cowher resigned in Pittsburgh (Great ownership), Giants coach wil be gone, Don't know if Fischer is coming back in Tennesse as his contract expired and they are talking that Parcells might be gone and Gibbs might get fired (don't see that one happening).. Sure I am missing some team out there.... Tough jobs but all in all I would rather be a college coach.. Heck, Saban is getting payed 32 million over an 8 year contract in Alabama.. that isn't bad coin to say the least.

I think Petrino just took one GIANT step backward in his career.

Could be- but what a mistake to make-- go from a measly $ million dollar to a $4+ million salary.... Tough to take!!

I think Vick will NEVER be a great QB. he is too quick to push the blame off on team mates.... never his fault.

he and T.O. would be a good pair!

My dream is T.O and Mike Tyson fighting to the death and the victor succumbing to his injuries. Wonder if the Boise St. coach getting any phone calls-mind you dealing with big league egos might be tougher than some college kids who love to play.

I think they will probably wait on the Boise coach as this was his first year as head man.. I would imagine folks want to see how well he recruits and if he can win with his own team and not the old coaches team (Who is in Colorado now)...

If they win for another year or two he will be getting the calls soon enough.. I would imagine some Big school will come a calling..

I think Jigs is right about Vick.. Hey, TO bought a house in the Atlanta area.... You might get your dream Jigs... TO is just about everything that is wrong with the modern athlete... To see everything wrong see Randy Moss.

You know I used to watch pro football and really liked it... It was great!! Now I have no interest in pro ball... I am so damn sick and tired of showboating and bad charectors in football...... I'm just sick of it and now am watching other shows and don't even miss football........

Good coach, but I wouldn't trust him for a minute. He had 9 yrs to go on a 10 yr contract at Louisville. A very lucrative deal. Made a huge show of wanting to stay there. The way coaches can walk away these days is awful. Big money in college sports. Not sure why he wants to go where he makes less than the players.

I heard somewhere that Petrino had been getting 32million over the course of his contract at Louisville. Now I too am wondering what he's thinking going to Atlanta!! As for Michael Vick, jigs I've never heard of, or seen him talk trash about his teammates - is he really like that? Maybe I've just missed those Kodak moments when they spin the hilite reels.
