Well all my horses are at the vet today getting coggins and shots for this year. My old team ropin horse had something wrong with his left eye so i told the vet to check it out. turns out he has moon blindness. vet said ill have to medicate it and hope it goes down. anybody ever had this happen to one of thier horses?

Never with a horse. I did get a little of it once in College after too many shots and a husky gal mooned me! :D It cleared up in due time. How do you treat your horse for it?

haha then i must have had it numerous times also. two set of eye drops and banamine will help it. i cant wait to dry to give a 18 year old 1200 lbns horse eye drops.

Daughter has a horse that has it..... the short of what the vet said, is was something to do with auto-immune system. Had kind of a green cast to its eyes at first off and on. Almost totally blind now and follows an old mare around for a seeing eye guide.

The first time I saw this was in the late 40's _ An Uncles horse got it _ the first signs where when his horse wouldn't cross a creek on a hunting trip.
It seen to come and go until she was totally blind.

In those day it was blamed on Open Air Trailers and "THEY" started putting Dooms and then Roofs on them.

In the 50's we saw it in Roping Horses that were hauled overnight to Ropings and blamed it on "On Coming Head Lights" and started putting "Darkly Tinted" plastic on front windows and leaving a trailer Light on at nights.

It bothers me that people pull Slant Trailers with the Drop Down Windows open (Are they Asking for Trouble?)

Goggle Search:

P.S.
Young and Broke (Many time hauling my horse in and "Open Bobtail Stock Truck") I bought a Hood with goggles and 'Ear Protection' . I feel that some people don't think about the ears. I often shoot off my horse but NEVER over or near the ears.
