Add sage grouse to the list that inlcudes wild horses & wolves. A list titled "Animals we can pretend to care about while furthering our agenda of ending grazing, logging & mining"!

Groups say they intend to sue over sage grouse

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) -- Three environmental groups say they intend to sue the Interior Department for not protecting sage grouse as an endangered or threatened species.

The Center for Biological Diversity, Desert Survivors and Western Watersheds Project said Monday the department violated the Endangered Species Act by deciding to classify sage grouse as merely a candidate for federal protection.

An Interior spokeswoman declined to comment, citing policy for matters in litigation.

The department on March 5 announced a warranted-but-precluded finding for sage grouse in 11 states. That means federal protection is considered warranted but isn't a sufficiently high priority to pursue for the time being.

Sage grouse are found in California, Colorado, the Dakotas, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and Canada.

:???: If they are to be found in 11 states plus Canada, how frickin' endangered can they be??

It seems like half the stuff in Canada that's "endangered" is because it's at it's northern range and the international boundary cuts it off.

Is Soapweed/Yucca endangered in Nebraska?
It's an invader in Canada but still on the "List." :?

Has any ask how they plan to manage the land to increase habitat for these species? Brittle land with out animal impact is a qucik way to increase desertification and global weather change. Healthy rangeland can sequester more carbon than any manmade solution at a far cheaper price. How are these species doing on the land these groups control or is that one of the reason they are on the threaten species list?

Most "Enlightened" Conservationist recognize grazing as a beneficial practice. It's more like oil and coal exploration causing the problems.
