Helped fight a fire on a windy Wednesday. Thought the irony of this scene needed a photograph before putting out the fire.

Another fire to fight on a terribly windy Thursday

My what big eyes you have.

Looks like it was a great day for a wedding. I get a kick out of the simplicity of it all. 'Round here, you'd be hard pressed to find a bride willing to have straw bales within 50 miles, let alone ask her guest to sit on them. :o

What time did you guys get out of there on Thursday? I ended up in a 6X6, and never sprayed a drop of water on Thursday, but Wednesday, I think I went though 6 tanks of water. First time I have ever chased fire in 4th gear, and couldn't keep up with it.

I was amazed you guys got that fire stopped. Still not sure how you did it. Our department sent 3 units down and I was told to be ready to releive someone later on. Great work by everyone involved. My thoughts and prayers to everyone who lost cattle, hay etc.

I witnessed two miracles this past week. There is a wrecked car lying out in a pasture where it landed, about three miles west of Cody. To see this car, it appears that there would be no way anyone could have survived the accident. Fortunately though, both occupants of the car walked away with barely even any cuts or bruises. A 23 year old young man was thrown out of the car as it rolled, and his mother (the driver) was wearing her seatbelt. The only place the roof wasn't bashed down was where she was sitting. Speed was a factor, and when a deer jumped out onto the highway, the lady swerved to miss it. She lost control of the car, and it rolled two or three times before coming to rest in a pasture. It is very much a miracle that both of these people came through with hardly a scratch.

The other miracle was at the prairie fire southwest of Cody. The wind was blowing fifty miles per hour, and the fire looked mighty nasty as volunteer fire departments and ranch rigs arrived at the scene. The fire was in some high rugged hills, with no way to drive up there to spray water. About eight or ten fire trucks lined up below the high ridge, prepared to spray water and escape if necessary as the fire came down off the hills. As the tall flames came over the edge, the wind was in the right direction and strong enough to just blow out the fire. It was like a kid blowing out the candles to a birthday cake. Not a one of the trucks even had to start their pump motors or spray a single drop of water on this particular part of the fire. I do realize that there was quite a prayer circle in progress from folks many miles away from the fire, but the results of this miracle were impressive.

That was quite the week for miracles you witnessed. :D

A few years back we had a dry lightening strike start a fire on the west side of the ranch sometime around midnight. Just so happened a combine crew was just finishing up and went to the neighbors to tell them just as another fire started across the highway. We had fought two fires earlier in the day so were ready to go but most people came to the other fire first. It was just Dad a neighbor and myself for a while but more showed up as the other fire was put out fairly quickly. Our fire broke over into some real rough country as as it started down hill it lost it's oxygen and put itself out. :) We did put out some hot spots after day light but it sure got dark out in the burned places.
We even had the Outlook MT firemen jump the border as if we didn't get it out it would have hit the border 10 miles wide.
