Roper----you mean that when a convicted child molester is released into the public, you law-abiding folks are not even given the consideration of KNOWING about their presence???!!  Now THAT sickens me!!
Oh it sickens us also...our offenders have been protected, you know they have rights too...like Roper said how those voters sleep at night

Remember Rosco who killed all those Mounties? They guy that the whole community feared? They guy who the police were scared of? The guy whos own family called him the devil?
Well he was a convicted sex offender with a pretty big wrap sheet. Guess what? The Shrinks in Edmonton did not consider him dangerous enough to even warn the public about. He was never on the RCMPs web site!

And what about darling Karla, rapes and murders THREE girls ,one of them being her own sister, and she walks free, and the public have NO right to know where she is,and media is not allowed to follow her, because its harrassment...YUP,Canadas justice system is wonderful   GD Liberal Government

Roper, this is the worst thing about the "liberal" position I am disgusted with. If they only made a bit more sense on things like this, they would not be so bad.

We have the late term abortion debate down here.

It comes down to the forgiveness and acceptance thing over responsibility.

I am all for forgiveness and acceptance and responsibility but society has the responsibility obligation also. When people do sex crimes with young kids (5 years out of their age range) something is terribly wrong. Social acceptance of it except in rare cases should just not be there. It was one of our big campaigns to change public opinion into looking at it like that instead of accepting the "rare" incidents so easily.

If people are not going to be responsible for themselves, they have to have society do it for them. The age thing you speak of only allows the people who would engage in such acts more courage to be irresponsible.

To me it is a no brainer, but I understand cultural differences. If they don't change it, the "rare" instance is less rare and actually encourages more of the totally unacceptable behavior. In the case Mike posted, a law that would also make the crime non consensual anytime illegal drugs or alcohol were involved with more severe penalties should help.

If the age thing isn't changed, it is just an advertisement for sexual predators to come to Canada and those specific provinces, as you suggested. What decent people would want that?

Does the current law have to do with consideration of the ethnic populations like Huterites or something?

Econ in all honesty the average Canadian in my oppinion has no idea whats going on. Most Canadians get there news from the Federally owned public broadcasting network <CBC>. The CBC is nothing but a propaganda tool for the liberals.
Up until a year ago even I didnt even know how bad things were until a child molester moved to the closest town where we get our mail. Somebody put up posters. This enraged the child molester who wrote letters to the editor threatening to sue whoever put up the posters.
This is when I got involved and started doing research with the help of local police. I could not believe what I found. Not only about our lax laws but I also recieved off the record info that there was actually three child molesters that had moved into the small town without anybody knowing about it.
And yes Econ you are right. We get child molesters from the States all the time coming up here. Its like a paradise for them.
In Alberta we have Conservative politicians like Art Hanger <retired police officer>who are very out spoken about our corrections system and the need to protect our children. However this is a Federal Jurisdiction and even though Alberta always goes Conservative there has always been little we could do about it because Quebec and Ontario who usually control the Federal government always appose any toughening of the laws.
You see Ontario always sucks up to Quebec as their political power base. There is also a lot of French in Ontario. I honestly dont know whats wrong with them but it seems like the French apose any kind of criminal laws or punishment for any type of crimes.
Karla Holmoka learned to speak french in jail. As soon as she got out of jail she moved to Quebec because she knew that was the one place were she would be socially accepted. She even said this in an interview!
Another problem is we seem to have liberal appointed judges up here making the laws or interperating the laws to suit their agenda.
Example we have the Pierre Trudeu Charter of Rights and Freedoms that is just a joke. The constitution is just as sad. Its a big document and is not worth the paper its wrote on. Basically says we have the right to speak french, suck c--ks and to watch child porn! We dont even have property rights up here!
Anybody who doesnt believe me should call their MP and ask that he sends you a copy of it. The charter is a sad joke :(
The only way we are ever going to get real change up here would be to get a Conservative majority federal government. That or for western Canada to pull out of Confederation all together. You see our country is not like yours. Up here Ontario and Quebec has all the power. Over in the BC lower mainland <Vancouver> we have a bunch of liberal freaks as well. But the main problem is Ontario and Quebec.
