Wisconsin Calf Sale Nets $21,000 for R-CALF USA

In a matter of six hours on Friday, February 18, Joe and Barb Nelson, owners/operators of Lanesboro Sales Commission in Lanesboro, MN scheduled and held an R-CALF benefit sale generating $17,500 in proceeds. :)

Pierre, SD~ Scott Huber, a government trapper and cattleman in South Dakota held his annual fund raiser for the NCBA. Out of a total of 220 guests he accumulated a total of $4.16 for the National Cattlemen's Beef Association setting a record for the event.

The money will aid the NCBA in promoting goodwill between packers and cattlemen. The surplus will be donated to the USDA in their relentless effort to export beef to Japan.

End of story.

Stockmen's West Holds R-CALF Fundraiser; Tallies $10,000 for R-CALF

Billings, MT ~ Stockmen's West Livestock Exchange, Inc. in Dickinson, ND was host to its third R-CALF USA benefit calf sale on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 netting over $10,000 in proceeds.

Dean and Arlene Helling, along with son Jeff and his wife Cindy, all of Golden Valley, ND not only donated the black Angus replacement heifer sold at the auction, they purchased the calf back to put her in production.

"We believe R-CALF has done more to help control the situation with Canada and worked to keep our country safe from BSE more than any other organization," said Arlene Helling. "R-CALF's concern, research and work has been a real benefit to producers and the organization has proven itself over and over again. We're comfortable knowing that our dollars are being spent for these reasons rather than contributing to other organizations that let funding go elsewhere. We're happy to do our part for not only our future, but our children's as well."

Sale organizers included David Opp, Hebron, ND; Chuck Schorsch, Richardton, ND; Dale Luhman, Gladstone, ND; the Helling Family of Golden Valley, ND; Terry Duppong of Glen Ullin, ND and Larry Schnell, Stockmen's Livestock Exchange, Inc.

R-CALF president and founder, Leo McDonnell of Columbus, MT was on hand to speak to the crowd of about 300 people.

Lanesboro Sales Commission Nets $17,500 for R-CALF USA

Billings, MT ~ In a matter of six hours on Friday, February 18, Joe and Barb Nelson, owners/operators of Lanesboro Sales Commission in Lanesboro, MN scheduled and held an R-CALF benefit sale generating $17,500 in proceeds.

"I knew we were going to have a big crowd on hand that day for a special cow sale," explained Joe Nelson. "So, we decided to put up some signs and hold a benefit auction for R-CALF. We put a speakerphone near the auctioneer's microphone and asked Leo McDonnell to talk to the crowd by telephone. We had a packed house, but when Leo began to speak you could've heard a pin drop. It was an extremely successful day."

Wiebkie Feedlot of Spring Grove, MN donated the calf sold during the rollover auction. Mike Frank, Pilager, MN was the final bidder on the calf at $1700. Chuck Stapleton of Lexington, KY was a contending bidder on the final sale. Stapleton, who phoned in his bids, announced that he would donate $1000 to R-CALF USA.

"We also want to recognize Gehling Auction Company of Preston, MN; Corn Beef Feedlot of Dike, IA; and Ken Graner of Associated Bank in Lanesboro, MN for their significant support," noted Nelson.

The Lanesboro sale was broadcast over the internet and Nelson noted that contributors from all over the nation were calling in bids of support during the auction.

"I've been following R-CALF USA for a long time. I'm a firm believer in what the organization is accomplishing, but I particularly appreciate R-CALF's work on country of origin labeling because I think that's what it all comes back to. I don't understand why we can't label our U.S. beef when we can label everything else," said Nelson. "It's clear that nobody is going to stick up for U.S. cattlemen. We're going to have to do it ourselves, and that's why we're supporting R-CALF USA."

Three Belle Fourche Livestock Exchange Fundraisers Generate $21,700 for R-CALF

Billings, MT ~ Belle Fourche Livestock Exchange, Belle Fourche, SD was the site of three R-CALF USA fundraising sales held January 20 and 27, 2005 and February 10, 2005, generating a total of $21,700.

Calf donors for the three sales included the Hotchkiss Ranch of Reva, SD; Jerry and Andrew Cathey of Hammond, MT; and Justin and Sandy Hildreth of Camp Crook, SD.

Dean Strong, owner/operator of Belle Fourche Livestock, a veteran supporter of R-CALF USA, said the sales were a direct result of tremendous grassroots support in the region for the organization and its work on trade and market issues. "We believe in R-CALF and all its doing," explained Strong. "People are anxious to donate calves and do what they can to support the effort. We're happy to provide the vehicle to get that done."

Leo McDonnell, R-CALF USA founder and president said ranchers in South Dakota have been instrumental in helping the organization grow. "From day one cattle producers in South Dakota have been behind R-CALF, helping with their time and hard earned money. Today, that support continues to grow and for that I'm extremely grateful. In July 1998 the first R-CALF talk ever given in South Dakota was made at Belle Fourche Livestock. It goes without saying that R-CALF wouldn't be what it is today without the support of South Dakota ranchers. From those humble beginnings R-CALF has grown to what it is today."

Another couple of years of the closed border keeping up good prices and some of us might be able to retire in the Bahamas someday!

Now Manitobian, don't lower yourself, warm climates will be needed to be accustomed. Interesting that science is gone and ......... yes you gue$$ed it greed does prevail in the south.

Nebrusker has some 24 year old grade three buddies. And they are ahead of most r-calfers. Doesn't need capitols in the name.

Canadian Angus and a free trader :???:

Great R_Calf can sue, sue, sue, and make money doing it. It seems they love to get their R_Calf name on the headlines... What has R_Calf done to promote our beef, educate our consumers about the wholesomeness of our product? Zilch, Zero. I don't believe lawsuits are the way to go in our business. We are gentlemen ranchers, not screaming renegades. R_calf has NO problem putting everything they do in the headlines; makes it look like they are doing something. So the ball rolls on and on and on...

Cattle Alert: $40,000 Generated at Herreid Livestock (SD) R-CALF Fundraiser

Billings, MT ~ "Let's show 'em what Herreid, South Dakota can do for R-CALF, boys," shouted Herman Schumacher, owner/operator of Herreid Livestock Auction and R-CALF USA director on Friday, January 28, 2005 when an R-CALF fundraising sale got underway. When the sale ended more than 190 donors raised $40,000 for R-CALF coffers.

Kunz Northern Kross Ranch donated the Red Angus heifer sold during the rollover auction. "R-CALF does for us what we cannot do by ourselves," said Nina Kunz. "We are, by nature independent, yet we are pooling our opinions and energy through R-CALF. The organization is our voice. R-CALF understands because it is driven by producers who are just like all of us. We believe in the future of American agriculture and the U.S. cattle industry. We need an organization like R-CALF to protect our futures. Our ranch is willing to do whatever it takes to further the R-CALF cause."

Robert Thullner of Herreid Livestock Auction said 650 letters were sent out to prior to sale day encouraging support for the auction.

"It's now or never, folks," said Schumacher in a pre-sale speech. "R-CALF is the only outfit effectively dealing with the issues that are impacting your business. There's no doubt about it, the road ahead will be a rough one, but we're in it together and we're speaking with one voice – through R-CALF. The momentum that's building across the country to support R-CALF's efforts is a clear signal of how cattlemen feel and the unity we have. We're making a difference, but we have to do our part to make sure R-CALF can continue to do what needs to be done."

M-R...HOW MUCH OF THIS GOD DAMN MONEY ARE THESE FEAR MONGERING BASTARDS POCKETING? Bet there investing it in the Bahamas!

I doubt it, but what business is of yours anyway? Sounds to me like you are jellous!!

Why are all of you posting this R-Calf pr doing so as Guests? are you afraid of someone finding out who you are? My neighbor summed this all up in a very simple way. He said that Leo is no different than the REVEREND JACKSON. He is constantly telling the black people how they are being mistreated, taking any and all donations and doing nothing for the people he is claiming to represent, but with all of the money being donated the reverend lives a life of luxury.

But you have to remember that the good Reverend has done some good. Praised the good things and critized the bad.

He has gone to other countries and worked to better people, not just run the down. He has been recognized internationally to mediate, not complain and be a small minded protectionist.

Afraid that Leo the lion is only a hero in his small mind and mislead followers.

Perhaps if a proper test on the cattle that need to be tested, the shoe could be on the other foot.

I have said in the past and will say it again, it is not your fellow livestock people who are the problem but big business, packers, feed companies, renders, and to a lessor extent big government.

If all cattlemen north and south worked together, instead of being hate mongers, we could make a difference.

Canadian Angus, proud to be a Canadian, a free trader, and I try to raise the cattle that benifit the cattle industry.

:???: Nebrusker, Oh Nebrusker calm your we mind and try to talk as an adult. If you do not have that ability, try to think before you write. If you would read what I said was that perhaps you should aim at others. :!:

Now try to be nice for once.

CA

 Don't have anything to say, just wanted to see if these little Galloway heifers would come up beside my name.

Hi di ho neighbors; everybody having fun? :D

Nets $7,250

Billings, MT ~ An R-CALF USA benefit sale held at Alma Livestock Auction in Alma, NE on February 15, 2005 raised $7,250 for R-CALF USA. Market owner/operator Steve Kucera said, "We were happy to host this benefit auction for R-CALF USA. Everyone should be aware of what's going on with regard to what R-CALF USA is doing for U.S. cattle producers. We all need to stand behind the organization."

Alma Livestock Market donated the yearling steer for the rollover auction, which brought $853 during the final bid.

R-CALF USA member and president of Independent Cattle Producers of Nebraska (ICON), Chris Abbott spoke to the crowd before the sale got underway. Abbott is also an original plaintiff in Pickett v Tyson Fresh Meats (formerly IBP). "There's no question that R-CALF USA is working for the cow/calf man," said Abbott. "The grassroots support for R-CALF is growing by leaps and bounds due to its work on market and trade issues. R-CALF Cattle Update: Fundraiser Held at Burke (SD) Livestock Auction Sends $8600

Billings, MT ~ On February 12, 2005, Burke Livestock Auction in Burke, SD was the site of an R-CALF USA benefit auction netting $8600 for R-CALF USA. Burke Livestock Auction owners Harris and Mary Lambley donated the crossbred heifer that sold multiple times during the event.

"This was our first R-CALF sale this year," said Harris Lambley. "We had a great deal of support from businesses. Local business owners know that without beef producers lots of small towns would not survive. I want to especially thank Bob Hutchinson and Jim Murphy for helping with this sale."

R-CALF member Kenny Fox, Hermosa, SD also helped Lambley organize the event. "We had an outstanding turnout for a small town. Ranchers know that if it weren't for R-CALF USA we wouldn't be in business today. It's wonderful to see the support from outside businesses as well as ranchers," noted Fox. "Main street businessmen recognize that without agriculture producers the rural economy would be virtually non-existent."

Contributors included: Stephen and Kathleen Wenger, Eldon and Machele Vogt, Frank Bros., Darrell and Naomi Roggow, Clark and Mary Horn, Burke Livestock Auction, Alfred Carlsen, Charles and Nancy Sieh, Arlo and Helen Baird, James and Lisa Mikkelsen, Robert and Robyn Waterbury, Cam Dougherty, Mike and Melanie Hoffman, Eugene and Sue Chytka, George and Laurie Kenzy, Jay and Debra Ludwig, Robert and Penny Sperl, Matthew Bartling, Brett and Jessy Kenzy, George and Michelle Kenzy, Steven and Lisa Mayer, David and Jolene Van Metre, Michael and Lisa Jo Green, Victor Schmitz, Purvis Electric, Roger and Helen Turnquist, David and Patrick Kaupp, Mark and Brenda Lamp, Pat and Tanya Broome, Russell and Elaine Klug, Neal Lindwurm, Leslie and Arlene Keever, Louis and Beverly Kehn, Bob and Bev Beck, Jim and Gay Murphy, VanderPol Ranch, Inc., Louis and Beverly Kehn, Randy and Becky Kaczor, Tim and Karen Martin, Monte Haiar, Chisum and Dillon Lambley, Zeisler Cattle Co., Kenny Taylor, Bonesteel Oil Co., Golden West Communications, Inc., Consumer's Federal Credit Union, Wesley and Ruth Stinton, Bruce and Betsy Heyden.

That is a rather pertinent statement. There is sure a lot of dollars being sifted out of all the local communities in the name of R-Calf goodness, but who is being held accountable that it will be spent prudently and wisely?

I had a weird dream last night that I was thumbing through a western wear catalog, and in the hat section there was a rather jaunty style named the "R-Calf". I woke up laughing, which awakened my wife, and I had to tell her. She was disgusted because her dreams are quite often nightmares and mine are usually interesting and bizarre. :)

Soapweed- ironic about your dream, because there is a special edition R-CALF hat being made- the silk liner has the R-CALF logo--- being made by a custom hatter in Augusta Montana.... For every hat sold $50 goes to R-CALF......

Soapweed, is sw a coencidence? Not. Question. What has R-CALF done for the producers except tell them that the shy is falling? Look at the real numbers of cattle and prices before the border closure. Were we not getting $116 /cwt? even with all of the CDN cattle coming in? I myself cannot wait till next week when somebody can give a eulogy for R-Calf when the border is open and we will continue business as usual with no market highs and lows due to pure hesteria and R-calf claining that beef is bad.Good day.
