New Fed Chairman Ben Bernanke says that strong productivity growth in the U.S. is due primarily to tech aids (computers and other technologies) and flexibility in the economy.

Are you thinking of how to improve productivity on the ranch with technology? Is your operation flexible?

The Labor Department is predicting that farmers and ranchers will be at or near the top of the list of industries that will lose the most jobs in the next 10 to 20 years. And they are not talking about as a result of greater productivity. More productivity (efficiency) can reduce the outflow of jobs and ownership. What are some of the ways you see more high tech helping the cow-calf industry?

I'd like to be able to check windmills from my pc morning,noon and evening. I have a nerd brother that says to simply use 80211b on a contiguous outfit.

Already use a wireless interface between feedtruck scales and notebook and a large omnidirrectional to make much of the homeplace hot. My brother is a nerd and likes doing stuf like this. If I'd pay the freight he'd likkup the windmills too.

When MID becomes a little more common I could see uplinked PDAs transferring the info - most ranches already use a computer to record a producer's input for MID. In many cases MID will simply transfer what a cowman has already been recording.

As I'm typing this I'm baling hay, but net surfing is marginally productive.
