This is looking down at the neighbors set of corrals that I was supposed to help brand at on Monday...He has cows and calves now on both sides of the creek- and it could be 2-3 weeks before the creek is low enough to get everything back together....This is Willow Creek, about 2 miles up the creek (southwest) from my place... This Creek drains a large area of the country out in the Missouri Breaks area...

Photo as you go southwest up the creek

More water coming from as far as you can see..

Looking down the creek toward where it dumps into the Milk River...Doing a good job irrigating some pasture and some Blue Joint hayfields...The normal creekbed is about 20 feet deep and 20 feet wide at the top...

Foxpup.jpg

While I was looking at the creek I was being looked at by a family of little fox that were living in the strawstack on top the hill...

This is Cherry Creek that drains in from the north (runs right thru a 1/2 section of deeded land I have in the middle of the community pasture :) )This may be the reason that Plan B of moving to a neighbors up north to brand on Monday may never come to be--especially with the radar showing more thunderstorms moving in tonight and the weather boys predicting an 80% chance of rain tomorrow....

Now thats what I call some good rainfall!

Wish this country would get a nice little flood. It woulf be wort all the creek crossing we'd have to fix, for all the full dams and water holes.

Damn, now your gonn'a have skeeters!

Jinglebob- You had to say that "Skeeter" word didn't you- actually with the cool nights, I've yet to see one....But yesterday we were talking about that- won't even be any arguing for where the biggest skeeters are this year....

This high and muddy water could really screw up the local Big Catfish contest scheduled for June 2 on the Milk River.....

Luckily so far today only a few sprinkles-- but out south about 5 miles, right thru where Willow Creek runs they say it has been raining heavy most the night and all morning--- and they have picked up another 1.5 to 2 inches of rain......

My yard finally dried out enough overnite I could get backed up to the bumper pull trailer this morning- and haul a mare over to a stud I want to breed her to...So at least I accomplished something.....

Lot of stories coming out of this flooding-- cowboy "who can't swim" in a canoe trying to rescue calves-- then having his paddle break in two and float away   Finally caught hold of some tree branches and pulled himself close enough to shore he could bale out into waist deep water and get the boat pulled ashore...

Neighbor had to trail his bulls thru creek overflow-- 3 year old colt (out of my old stud) he was riding laid down in the middle of the water...  I told him these are prairie bred horses - not swamp stompers   Then after corraling them in portable corrals he still ended up hooking the trailers to his tractor and pulling them out to the
highway and rehooking to the pickups....

looks like your country has gotten good rains too, gonna be interesting to see what it looks like in a couple weeks with sunshine  ............good luck

Thats a lot of water. I took a tour of the country Willow creek drains out of in 2004 when the National Public Lands Council held their annual meeting in
Glasgow. I'm abut 90 miles southeast of you. We've been getting some good rains but nothing that has run any water, its all soaked into the ground. :D

Oldtimer, you could send some of that moisture to us. We need it. We went out and looked at the cornfield a while ago, and there is a crack right down the row. Some of the roots are exposed, and some have died because of the roots being open. We'll just hope the good Lord sends us some.

Howdy Cedarcreek--I'm watching the radar right now and it looks like we have another batch of thunderstorms and rain heading right at us...Was supposed to haul a pot and some stuff north tomorrow and help a neighbor brand (the Plan B place)- but if we get much moisture that will be out of the question as we have to cross 2 creeks to get into his corrals....

Well Plan B went down the creek last night in the thunderstorms...Thunderstorm moved in around 10PM with quite a lightning/thunder show and then rain...Picked up another .8 during the night...Beautiful out this morning-with sun shining and birds singing- but I know we'll never get trailers and horses down that 9 miles of road we need to get to the corrals we planned at branding at....

What a wet country we live in    The weather boys say a dry slot today- with thunderstorms moving in tonite and likely rain for Tues and Wed...

This may be one of those years when some are still branding in August...What the hoot- as long as the grass is growing :) ...Now to figure out Plan C for today....

Holy cow, that is some serious water! It seems like as the years go by and there is more and more no till in this part of the country, the big rains seem to produce less runoff....and less flooding than in the past.

Somehow I missed commenting on these pictures earlier. I meant to say that I hope the rain doesn't cause too much damage, but I sure do admire that country in your photos. Looks great to me. :!: We had a quarter inch or so here last evening. We have never had any big rain totals, but the timing has been about perfect on every rain.
