That expanded metal, looks like a fine hay wagon deck. Love "the net" get new ideas everyday. I would have never thought of using expanded metal as decking material.

I have it on a 36 foot deck - works great

One disadvantage - you have to place the bales if you are using net wrapped bales - they do not take well to being pushed across the decking.

My dad and I replaced an old oak deck on a 24' flatbed with similar stuff about 15 years ago. The trailer was only a couple hundred pounds heavier, but that floor is still going strong. You have to knock loose hay off of it, and it can get icy, but alot of stuff just falls through it. The stuff we used was welded grid like in a dairy barn floor. Good floor.

Nice pics! How about an update on how that new tractor's working out....like it, love it, :???: Do you prefer the square bales over brb's? I've even heard of people making houses out of those squares, and stucco-ing over them.....never saw one, I don't think.

Started taking delivery of a ddg contract. Left in the dark this morning, terrible fog until the badlands. Was kicking myself in the ash while driving....for driving in that s____.

I never get to drive the new tractor, so must be ok... We've did squares for years.....Great for small bunches of cattle. And there is no mess... Labor involved if you don't have a square bale feeder, does keep ma in shape. Since I am married to joe farmer I can bale easily C2 in the 8440.
Little or no repair as long as you keep her greased.

Interesting pics Katrina, thanks for sharing. What do you use to feed these bales with?

You seriously bale with a 4wd? We've considered some row-crop operations crazy that-away but, haven't given the haying operations the same consideration. One neighbor uses a turned-up 4640, otherwise its a big FWA tractor of sorts. How wide do you have the tires set?

Yes.... Rides like a caddy..... We take the back out side tires off and with the break in the middle of the tractor I can whip into a corner and pick up the hay.... We started with a turned-up 4440 and it just rocked the dickens out of the tractor... Really hard on the transmission. And with the 8440 it just handles the baler soooo much better.... Hopefully Carter will design a better billhook...... 8)
