I used up all my current mustang pictures, and being bored I had to figure out some other excuse to post some pictures. These were taken at Eight Mile Spring in 2006 when I still was riding Ol Blue. I could cover a lot more country then. The first band I was able to get a few pictures and ride away without them knowing I was there.

This bunch was heading for water. There wasn't much to hide behind. I had a lot of trouble trying to get close enough for some good pictures.

When she looked my way I froze, it took a couple of minutes before she continued on her way.

This country was too open, they saw me coming and wasn't interested in a "photo shoot."

It was hot and we were both looking for shade. I pulled the saddle and took a lunch break. I sure wish I could be out there riding Ol Blue again. Sometimes, Ya don't appreciate some things enough, until there gone

Interesting country :D

You call him" Blue" but in that picture he looks like a red roan. :?

His registration papers has his name as Blue Riata. Thats where I came up with the name. In the shade of the tree, its hard to see his true color. I'd go with either color. By the way Big Muddy,,, has your tomatoes froze yet?

Tell us about your roan horse, mustang. Do you still have him? I take it you must have thought a lot of him.

It's dangerous to ask an Senior Citizen about his grand kids. Ya might get a lot more than ya wanted.

Being a "wanna-be Cowboy, I always wanted a "cow eating Hancock bred cow horse. I finally bought Blue Reita in 1998. He was five years old and green broke. I paid a lot of money for the Hancock name and was really disappointed when I found out he was afraid of a cow, and every dark or light object along the trail. With a lot of patience and years he got over both problems. My favorite thing was roping heals to brand calves. He ended up being the perfect heel horse for me, low to the ground and a calm disposition. I could call him to me in the pasture and he hauled good. I guess because he was my last horse he meant a lot more to me, partly because in the last few years I had a lot more opportunity to ride. During one stretch I went to hunt mustangs seven Saturdays in a row, just me and Blue.

Riding got to where it wasn't as much fun as it use to be, (bad knees) and I ran out of places to keep him here in the city. I gave him to a friend in Green River Utah about five years ago. Blue was born in 1993,,he's getting a little older, and I was relieved to find someone who I knew would take good care of him.

The last picture is of hes new home. He's doing just like me,,, laying around and getting fat. When I whistled he came to me like always. There are days when I'd give about anything to go get him and head for the desert again. (I still have my saddle)

This is probably more than you wanted. I could go on a long time telling all the tales of the fun I had riding Ol Blue, looking for mustangs.

Good lookin' fella. :D

I got a soft spot for a roan as well. Rode a couple off my sister's blue roan mare Miss Alberta, Beaver Trap was a big easy going almost lazy :-) gelding that anybody could ride and a sister of his Bear's Roan Lady that was about the easiest horse to break that I ever rode. She would do anything and go anywhere for you. I'd been trailing calves out to graze one winter and heeling the slow ones for something to do and she took right to it. I was off to college for 4 months that winter and when I came home found out she was sold. :?
