Last week on Wednesday, we suffered thru a shirt sleeve day to check on the mustangs. We found about forty head and took a bunch of pictures. When the sun is low and a lot of haze in the air, it doesn't make for the best pictures. We left the 4-wheelers home, so we were able to get right in the middle of the herd, a great feeling.

We took pictures of this old boy in 2004.

This one came by at about twenty feet, quite friendly I'd say.

This one has been around from the first day.

We drove up the country about twenty miles to Brown Spring. Finding a lot of tracks around the water, we hiked about a mile up over a ridge and found about forty head. When we tried to get close enough to take pictures, but they took off, down in the flats where they felt more safe.

This band sneaked up behind us. They didn't know we were there, so they were moving a little slower.

I love your pictures! Thanks so much for sharing them with us.

Why don't you publish a calendar? I bet there are many horse aficionados who would love to purchase a calendar with these pictures... I know who will be your first customer...

I agree with Sweet B. Your photos are wonderful. I am impressed that you have followed these horses for so many years and know them individually.

When you say you left the four wheelers at home, were you just hiking on foot? I'd say you were doing well to get so close.

A rear end shot is always a good angle, but I like the looks of the stocking legged yearling.

Some amazing colors there, mustang. Your wild horses look much better than the mustang Clinton Anderson is working with on RFD-TV.

The picture after the buckskin where the band of 40 is leaving (#12, I think)-the colors make than an outstanding photo.

You know, our neighbors had a calendar made and gave them away for Christmas. I think she found a place where it's pretty reasonable. If I may suggest, why don't you find out how many here would be willing to buy a
calendar of the mustangs from you and then you could order a calendar.
Heck, we could give them for gifts. If you would like, I could find out her
source and you could check it out.

I know we are certainly interested in buying more than one calendar.

Just let me know if you want me to inquire.

Thanks once again for sharing!

I appreciate the kind comments.

Faster Horses,,, If you could PM me the name of the company, I will check out the possibility's. The next challenge would be to pick the best 12 pictures.
Thanks again for "making my day."

If it looks like it could be done, and enough interest, maybe we could take a poll.

Hi JF
A couple of weeks ago we took 4-wheelers out and couldn't get within a mile of these same mustangs. I've been told that someone has been chasing them on 4-wheelers and it makes sense. We drove up to the first band and walked thru the herd. As long as we didn't make a lot of noise or sudden moves they would let us get within 30 to 40 feet.

The last three pictures were of a different band. They are really wild, kind of like deer or elk. They smell or see us and they are on the run out of the country, sometimes running two or three miles before they stop.

Thanks for your interest.

It sure can be done! :D Depending what type of calendar you decide to publish (e.g., monthly or daily) you can even write some short funny stories about some of the horses to reveal their different personalities. I am also thinking you could even publish sticky notes with pictures of horses, as it is a hot selling item, and the ones available on the market are usually boring. I don't know much about photophy, but I see that some pictures can be turn into prints...

Good luck with this new adventure!

Hi Sweetbasil
I really appreciate the suggestions. I'm not acquainted with those stickies you mentioned. Where could I see or buy such an item ?
I can print pictures on my color printer, but it's really expensive buying printer cartridges. The best way is to have Walgreen's or Walmart print them. You can e-mail them the pictures, then go pick up the prints in a day or so. When Walgreens put them on sale a 4x6 are about .10 cents @ each.

Websites for printing calendars, mugs, etc. and you can sell these items through them reaching a bigger market.

Check Cafepress andn Lulu and see what they offer. Like FH, there are independent people who can publish them for you. You can create your own website via weebly.com for free and direct people there to see your calendars and/or any other items you might have relating to horses. You can also do a blog about these horses and what you have witness on a daily basis...

I am sorry, I couldn't think of the name last night... They are post it notes and I have seen some with pictures on them.... So check the site below to get an idea of what I am referring to...

Good luck, and let me know if you have any questions that I can help you answer...

I've checked out a few businesses who do personalized calendars and found three of them that were at about $20.00 per copy. If anyone can find a better price please let me know. Is 20 bucks a copy out of line. Would any of you still want calendars at that price ?

I think you can find them for less, but I'm not sure about it. The calendar
that friends gave us came from www.vistaprints. com and it's a quality calendar. You'll have to check with vista prints to find out the cost. The
one they gave us is full color and on real heavy paper, with coils dividing the picture from the calendar, which makes it nice.

I agree with FH, you can do better. I know of people who have ordered things from Vistaprint, and they like the quality of the products. $20 per copy is too expensive.

You need to make a little for all your trouble, mustang. I would buy several
depending on what you come up with for price. They'll make nice gifts for the horse-y people I know.
How much is shipping? I can vouch that Vista does nice work.

If I took 5, you only need to sell 20 more!!!!!! And sweetbasil will buy, too.

Any others!!! Place your orders now folks!!! :D Step right up, don't miss out!!!
Here's your one chance to get a calendar and know the photographer!! He'd probably sign them for you too!!! :D

Thanks for the link sweet basil.

Here's the one we have, the Wall Calendar:

I need to find out if what we have is on card stock. It's pretty sturdy.
It was given to us as Christmas present last year and I've kept it
as our main calendar.

FH,
Thank you for your feedback... I think Vistaprint might be the "best option" for the calendars...

I showed my Mom the pictures, and she is all for buying herself a calendar! I will too!
