The weather man said Friday was the last of the semi cool days this week when it wasn't going to rain,,, sooo knowing that my buds were busy doing other thing,,, and knowing that my pickup was having heart burn, I decided that going alone was the best option.

The BLM man said he had set some new troughs out around Cochran Spring, so I figured there might be a good chance of some horses hanging around them. I left home at 2:30, stopped at the Golden Arches for a burger and headed across the dust pockets of the Rydahl Pass Road. I only had to use 4-wheel drive for about forty yards.

When I got to Cochran the trough was about half full and the whole areas was dust about three inches deep. Further out I found three mustangs, which left in a hurry when they saw my pickup. With plenty of water, they don't hang around much in this hot weather. I found the new tanks which had plenty of water in them, but no fresh tracks around them.

There were a lot of horses a mile north of Brown Spring, because the Cowboys have turned water into two of their troughs. Very considerate of them, I thought. There isn't any places to hide around those troughs, so all the picture are from a long way off.

When these finally moved out, another bunch moved in.

I was back in the truck when I saw this band headed for water. It was a real risk deciding how close I could park the truck and not scare them away.

At about this point, I was sliding up in the seat to get a better shot, when I leaned on the horn,, they didn't miss a step.

The first Appi. (appaloosa) mustang I ever saw.

I could see another band at the next trough up the country about two miles. There was no chance of getting any good pictures,,, but I drove up there anyway. They took off like they had been shot at.

The first bunch must have seen them too, because they headed down into the flats too,,, kicking up a dust cloud a quarter mile long.

You have to look close to see both dust clouds.

Very interesting! I always enjoy your captions along with the pictures so we know what is going on. Thanks!! Makes me happy they have water!! We who
live in arid and semi-arid regions know the importance of water!! Can't have too many places to get it. Good for the Cowboys that turned the water
on for them. They have good hearts. :D You checking on the water and alerting the BLM has to have helped too.
