I was too poor to buy a live-in, so I built one. Ol Blue and I saw a lot of country in it. I sold the trailer and gave Ol Blue to my friend, but like the song says.. "I didn't sell my saddle."

We were riding the ridge line on "The Cedar Mountain," above Eight Mile Spring. You can see my trailer in the center of the picture, a long way back.

We found mustangs high up in the ledges

and we found them down in the flats.

We tried to include everyone in the adventure.

some of questionable character.

In August the ground was so hot, this guy didn't want to get out of the trail.

At times I wish I had him back.

Can't tell a book by the cover, they say, but IMO, that blue horse has to be the best looking one! Don't even know why I'm so partial to them, unless it is that most of favorite horses of my 'other half' have been blue roan or gray dun. I've not ridden since the second or third time I broke my tailbone long ago. Still miss it sometimes, tho.

I really enjoy seeing those mustangs! Thanks again.

ps, the photo's are sort of inclining me to go have a look at the ones at the preserve near Hot Springs. Can't believe they can be any better looking, but I believe those are running on private land funded by private money, at least that was the original intent of that project by Dayton Hyde.

mrj,,what is a gray dun? I don't think I have ever heard of that color.

Thanks once again, mustang, for the pictures. Always enjoy seeing them.

Maybe I used the wrong terminology. The ones we have are more grayish than straight tannish with the black dorsal strip, mane, and tail. I'm no expert, but that makes sense to me. We call them Mouse and Chico, as did the previous owner. Come to think of it, I don't know if they are registered or not. They are quarter horses.

I believe that 'gray dun' is know as Grullo or Grulla. They are one of the most rare of colors and are mouse-colored with the dark dorsal stripe and some dark barring on the legs. Pronounced "Grew-Yuh," it is the Spanish word for the blue-gray crane.

Thanks FH. That 'Grulla' name came to me as I was returning home from a trip to get the mail and saw the horses coming to the water tank. And the fact that one of them is looking more dun colored and the other more definitely with the gray tones. Not sure if either has the barring on the legs. Will pay more attention to looking for that next time I see them up close. Blue roan is still my favorite color, and I think we are seeing more of them the past few years. Or maybe it is getting noticed more. Not being a rider, I can enjoy them for the color, appearance and attitude.........without being disappointed in how they perform!
