I got some emails from those I SUPPOSEDLY sent them to--they
asked if I had sent the original, and I hadn't.
 I NEVER SENT THEM.

Here is what the email said:

Dear friend,
How are you doing recently?
I am willing to give you a big surprise. I found a very good website: www. ddllu. com.
This website sells phones, laptops, tvs, psp, digital cameras and motorbikes. They only sell new and original products and they have very good feedbacks. I bought a sony tv from the website and I got it without one week. The delivery speed is very fast. They can send products to most countries in the world. In addition, their prices are very competitive.
It will be a good choice for you if you need these products.
Greetings!

NOW WHAT DO I DO?
It was sent to everyone on my contact list.

I'm guessing it is from all those XXX and unmentionable sites that you dabble on Faster....yur dark little secrets have finally caught up with you!!

but naw, that has happened to me before and I have received them from my friends as well. Not sure what to do about it, I just delete them and go on. Kinda annoying and it hasn't happened in a while to me. Hopefully your friends are smart enough to just delete them and go on.

WARNING. Do not click on the www. that was part of that email.
I just did and it said VIRUS THREAT.

It was a site in the UK from the looks of the prices that were
posted.

Oh boy. I'm too old for this. And I'm too nosy for my own good.

Thanks, Tibbs. I hope my computer doesn't blow up.

If you folks never hear from me again, it was nice knowing you...

I didn't. I have NO IDEA how this happened.
I didn't even know one had been sent out...til I got questioned
by the people they were sent to...

The only way I knew it was foreign is because I clicked on the
www link that was in the original post here...stupid me...I don't even
know why I clicked on it. I didn't click on it in the emails, only right
here on ranchers.net...

Tempest in a tea pot.

Update your anti virus and go out and find a nice, free firewall to download - then just be careful about the emails you open and remember that most sites you visit have the ability to visit you when you go there - the information highway is a TWO way street - and many streets are not friendly.

Lots of those "specialized sites" love to send info your way - it helps them track you, watch you, and yes - use your information for their own purposes.

Heck, this site does many of those things - but not in a way that could be considered harmful.

Keep as much personal stuff off your computer - or on another hard drive that you can connect and disconnect to thecomputer as required with a USB connection.

However - if you live your life in fear of computer intrusions you will miss out on a lot of stuff - so relax and carry on - life will be good.

Next time you go to town - visit your friendly local computer expert and ask him about what I have suggested if you are not sure - he will be happy to help and it will cost you less than 20-30 bucks.

Plus the fuel and time to town of course

Regards

BC

They need not hack-in-your computer - they hack-into your InterNet provider and get access to eMail addresses there and use them.

iT happened to us - everyone was getting mad at us.
Your computer will never be aware of this

Some other sites may then block you - You can ask your provider to work on this.

You didn't get one, katrina, because I have a local provider account and a Yahoo one. The problem was through Yahoo. Luckily, I don't have many contacts listed there.

Thanks, BC, will do. Odd, I just had a computer guy here late yesterday evening (we are very limited in this little spot on the prairie--and he teaches classes at the school). That was BEFORE I realized I had
this hacking problem.

My avastat was running out and he installed AVG and did some other things, but I'm not sure I have a firewall. I will call and ask him.

Thanks OD/NT for your comments.

You too, TIBBS. (I think).

FH had a similar thing happen. My e-mail account was used to send a vast number of e-mails out.
Only reason I found out is they started coming back.
Called my service provider and they had already been tipped off by their system and were working on it when I called.
They told me to delete every e-mail that came back and to not open them at all.

Hi Faster, sometimes all you have to do is go to an infected web site and suddenly your computer is possessed. Curse all hackers. There's a free anti-malware program available for download that can find and eliminate nasty bits that crawl into your computer. I've been using it for over a year and it's saved my bacon many times over, and I don't go to questionable web sites.

Anyway, you can download it from here if you like:
http://download.cnet.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button

That and keeping your anti-virus program updated will help keep you smiling. Best wishes.

Just got it straightened out, kris...thanks for asking!!

Yes, Emma, the guy who came to check my computer installed
a malwarebytes on my computer. When I logged on this morning,
there was big red box that said THREAT DETECTED!! Scared me,
so I called him and he told me to shut everything down, which I did.
And he came out this evening and got it all taken care of. Took
him 2 hours and there were over 200 possible problems.

Anyhow, I'm back...and smiling...

I am no computer expert as my wife has gotten pretty good at those sort of things. She said the other day that our service provider, our local phone company, said to do was to put an address in your address book in the sort of format as [email protected].

You can use any sort of letter, but apparently this alerts them right away of someone using your email address to send out phony emails and scams.
