Yesterday was Ken's birthday. I don't think it was his ideal type of day weather-wise. Anyway, the blizzard broke sometime during last night and today turned out kind of nice, melting some.
The first thing after breakfast, Dad and I saddled our horses Sassy and Silver and rode out to look for a couple missing calves. We went into Weber's land. About a half mile south of the fence, I stumbled on to one, so called Dad over. I took the calf home on Sassy.
Lloyd and I started feeding hay with the crawler while Dad tried to match up cows and calves. We loaded on a half-stack [the top half of a six-ton stack of loose hay] and fed the cattle around here before dinner.
After dinner, Lloyd took the feeding outfit up north and Dad and I drove up the cows and calves. Dad rode Crackerjack this afternoon. Quite a few calves came back.
We fed the half a stack to the cows and calves and then loaded on the butt [bottom half of a haystack] to feed the drys. The fan was loose on the crawler, so I rode home to get the 450. We finished feeding up there and came home, loaded on a butt, and fed some more around here.
We found a duck with his wing caught on a fence. He had a fishing hook caught in his neck, and the line was tangled around his wing. I brought him in the house and took loose the string. We put him in a box and fed him some grain.
Dad and I rode out in the horse pasture to get in the heavies that got out. We sorted out a few cows to put in the barn, and came in for supper.
