I got up at the usual time and had a hearty breakfast. I then saddled Sassy and rode into Weber's land, looking for a missing calf. I didn't have any luck in finding it, however.
Dad took us to school in the new pickup [a 1968 Ford F250 two-wheel-drive], as the four wheeler has not been acting quite right lately. Lloyd followed along with the tractor. We had to doze out the bridge, the entrance to the oil strip, and a big drift just before the highway. We got to school at 9:30.
Typing was over and Geography was mostly done when I arrived. We were given a short assignment in Geometry. Mr. Krotz let us use the Biology period to study for a promised test.
Today was Maggie's birthday, so she gave candy bars along with dinner--a tuna mix on toast. I spent the noon hour reading "The Great Adventure" by Janice Holt Giles. Aunt Gladys loaned me this book and another one "Johnny Osage."
We read poetry in Literature class and were given Driver's Ed period and the rest of the day to study. I had to make up my typing lesson.
After school, Sandra, Sybil, and I went up to Grandma's to wait. She was at Rushville. Mom, Dad, and "Hank" [little sister Nancy] picked us up at 5:00 and all six of us crowded into the pickup [just single cab pickups in those days] to go to Martin after some feed. We had supper at the Highway Café and ran across Uncle Stan's family going to the show.
We came home and stopped at Merriman. Dad called Mrs. Snyder for Snyd [our neighbor Ronald Snyder] as all of the phones on our line are out. We got home and brought in some cows. These had to be tied up to give their calves a chance to suck.
