Maybe some of you heard about the fire at Valentine, NE. Valentine sits on top of some steep forrested - well USED to be forrested - canyons that caught on fire Sunday afternoon. 10 homes were lost, 10 others damaged, and had it not been for the slurry bombers and helicopters, I don't know what would of happened to the city of Valentine. It's been terribly dry and hot here, and when the fire started it was 113 degrees and 9% humidity - with a stiff breeze pushing it. You can get a shot of my best side refilling my truck in Witte album #17.

Yesterday we got called to help on the fire Soapweed was at. I've played fireman 3 days in a row now and hope I can do more banking in the future. I'm afraid that if we don't get rain soon, this may just be the start of a long fire season.

sheeeshhhh....all anyone hears on the national news is how CALIFORNIA is on fire....what about you folks and the ones here in Montana!! Sooo sorry to hear about the loss of homes!!! Thank God, however, that there were no human lives lost, too!! Best of luck to all and I am still praying for rain for all!!

Sandhusker, very sobering photos and frightening. Thanks for sharing. Thank God for volunteer firemen such as yourself. In a small town everyone pulls together. Supposed to rain here Friday. Hope you get a toad strangler!
