My journal entry for Friday, August 2, 1968
Right after breakfast, I filled a grease gun and did some other preliminary chores before we headed out to the hay field.
As Snyd came over for a half-the-morning bull session, Dad got out of a little haying. The rest of us went up to the north meadow. I adjusted the guards to a moss-clearing height and then took my outfit over to the home meadow. I mowed swamps all morning and had fairly good luck.
The sweep had a flat tire so the stacking crew was slowed down for a while. They got up two and a half stacks before dinner.
I walked in from the home meadow for dinner, and arrived a little before the rest. We ate, watched "Art Linkletter" on TV, and then I read awhile.
I continued mowing swamps and got done about 4:30. Then I took the green pickup up north and raked the rest of the afternoon. Just at quitting time, the battery went dead on the rake tractor so I took it out to charge.
We came home and did chores. I tied up an old purebred (105) for her calf to suck. We took care of the club calves, fed the bulls and horse, gave an orphaned calf powdered milk, etc.
Mom, Sandra, and Nancy Jean went to Gordon. They didn't get home until 6:30, so we got short-changed on our iced tea in the afternoon.
We looked at old pictures this evening.
