My journal entry for Friday, July 12, 1968
After breakfast, Doug and I went up north. We finished putting new guards on the Kosch mower, but the grass was still too wet to mow.
We went over to the west meadow. I raked and Doug bunched. We got together about a full stack of bunches north of the alkali pond. Then we took the pickup home.
Dad requested an early dinner, so we ate at 11:30. I read some of "Reminiscences of a Ranchman," by Edgar Beecher Bronson over the noon hour.
We loaded our water jugs and headed for the north meadow. I finished mowing a land there, and the rest of the crew threw up a stack at the west meadow and then moved the machinery over.
I neglected to check any bolts on the mower. One came loose, allowing a big cylinder to come off. Dad went home after the crawler, so we could lift and put the cylinder back.
I swept awhile, but then the sweep tractor conked out. They worked on it while I mowed but didn't get it fixed.
Mom and Sandra came along from the bookmobile with iced tea. Sandra then took Sybil's place raking.
We had new twin calves at home. The new calf mentioned a couple days ago was one of them.
Snyd came over to help fix the sweep tractor, but his efforts were to no avail also. We had ice cream sandwiches and ice tea for a snack.
