My journal entry for Monday, June 24, 1968

I was aroused at 6:30, after Dad had already done chores. We ate breakfast and then got ready to go to Alliance.

Our bunch took off at 8:00. We had to stop in Gordon awhile to drop off some dry cleaning and do some other things. Dad, Sybil, and I went over to the Stockman's Drug to get a prescription filled, and all got free Cokes out of the deal.

We continued on our way and met Snyd [Ronald Snyder] in Rushville. He followed us on to Alliance. There Dad and I turned the car over to Mom and the girls, and we went on to Bridgeport with Snyd in his pickup.

We spent a good share of the day in the Bridgeport Equipment Company dickering on hay machinery, etc. We took time out for chicken fried steak dinners at the Broadway Café, and then went back. Dad ended up buying a used 1964 model Kosch mower for $395, and Snyd got a post hole digger.

Upon our return to Alliance, Dad and I went into Black's Open Range. I got a polka dotted short-sleeved shirt and a tie. We then rejoined the women and headed for home. At Rushville, we left the car to be fixed. Schoenthaler Chevrolet gave us one heck of a dirty clunker 1956 car to bomb home in. We had to get gas in Gordon.

When we got home, we had a lunch-like supper. Dad had to go to a Job's Daughters deal at Sarah Fairhead's invitation, so the girls and I did chores. Sandra fed the calf, and Sybil rode after the bulls.
