My journal entry for Saturday, June 1, 1968

After breakfast, we got ready to fence at the Leach Place. Sybil went along for the heck of it, so the pickup was rather crowded with five of us in the cab. On the way through town, we dropped off the dinner bell to be fixed at Weber's.

We started a quarter mile stretch of fence southwest of the old Webster buildings. Everyone fenced all morning, and we had dinner on a hillside.

Al Cheatle, of the Northern Plains Real Estate Agency, brought down a perspective buyer for our south places—Joe Dukat and his son of Ellsworth. Dad would like to make a land trade for part of the Weber Ranch.

Gail Avery and his crew were down to drill a new well at the main set of buildings. Dad and Sybil rode in the afternoon, sorting purebreds. The rest of us continued fencing. Doug and I worked on a new stretch, and Lloyd finished up yesterday's project.

Joe Kent's had originally planned to be at our place for supper, so we quit at the Leach Place early (6:30). However, something came up that they couldn't come.

Ken brought a tractor to the Leach turn-off, so rode home with the Green Valley fencing crew. He filled us in on the details of Bill Arnot's wild branding.

Lassie went to the big dog pound in the sky. She was ailing and getting old, so Dad put her out of her misery.

Helen Keller, of national fame, died today.
