My journal entry for Saturday, May 25, 1968
I arose at 6:30, had breakfast, and went out to load my bay mare. Dad, Sandra, Sybil, and I went to Uncle Stan's branding. Lloyd took the four-wheeler [pickup] down to work at the Leach and Fuscher Places. His job was to turn on windmills, but he blundered and turned on two that weren't even ours.
At the branding, I helped round up two bunches, wrassled awhile, and roped quite a while. About half the population at the festivities was dudes, but at one time there were eight sets of wrasslers plus the branders, vaccinators, castrator, and ropers.
Before and after dinner there were Indian wrestling matches. Jake [I didn't know his last name], who works for Mrs. Bowring, was declared the winner. Other after dinner entertainment was Ken plaguing Gary Cad with questions about "Bolock hunting." [You would have to know my cousin Ken to know how this might have gone.]
Dad and I hauled my horse home and got in a couple bulls. We took them down to the Leach Place and filled out the day with fencing.
When we got home, we had supper and did chores. Doug Ward (who is going to work for us this summer) and his dad came out. They talked until after 11:00 so I am a day late getting this caught up.
Jimmy McConaughey and his wife lost their two-month-old baby. He died in his sleep.
Mom and the girls went to Hicks' place over by Martin to get some chickens [already dressed I am sure] after the branding.
