My journal entry for Sunday, August 4, 1968

As it was Sunday, Mom didn't awaken me until about 7:30. Then I was pleasantly surprised by Dad's statement that chores were already done.

Snyd bombed over for breakfast, and caught us up on any gossip we'd missed before. Dad rode home with him as far as the branding corral, where we had a pickup. There they talked for another hour or so.

Mom and the girls went in to Sunday School. I read until Dad showed up, and then we went to church.

Rev. Sandall, our district superintendent, was the guest minister (DeWitts went to Michigan to take Dick to the university).

After church, we had dinner in the café. Then we made a rather hot drive down to the Leach Place to check a heavy cow, which by the way had a new calf. Also, we checked the windmills.

When we got home, we loafed around awhile. Then I did up chores early (at 5:00), while Dad put up a back rubber for the bulls.

Our gang went over to the JL for a hamburger fry and picnic supper—the occasion being Sarah's 15th birthday. Other guests were Uncle Stan's, Uncle Garould's, Abbott's, Arnot's, Debbie Iske, Jack Ricedorff, Tim Phipps, Billy Finn, and Robert "something or other" (a Greek boy).

On the way home, we stopped at Grandma's for a while. Then we continued our journey homeward, arriving quite a little after midnight. Before hitting the hay, I once again tried to ride the unicycle. I haven't improved much.
