My journal entry for Sunday, June 23, 1968
Dad hollered at 6:30. We went out and did chores before breakfast. I fed the bulls, gave the calf his ration of powdered milk, and got in a couple cows for their calves to suck. Dad varnished a wall in the shop.
I did a back page in my diary, goofed around a little, and then dressed for church.
We dropped the womenfolk off for Sunday School, and then Dad and I took Leora Morsett to her place after a vacuum cleaner (the church missed out on its weekly cleaning). Then we looked at a chariot of Harvey Thayer's, and went over to the Standard Station for pop. Arlene Chappell filled us in on a little gossip. [Regretfully I didn't write this gossip down. It would be interesting after all these years to know.]
Church took up at 11:15 and lasted until 12:30. I was reasonably attentive, I hope.
Uncle Stan's and our family had a picnic dinner out at Cottonwood Lake. Rusty Thorp's and another family joined us.
A 4-H meeting was scheduled to be held at the park, but due to mosquitoes, we had it at the Lake. I rode with Ken home to get his record book (he is the secretary). The meeting wasn't exceptionally spicey. The Goodwin girls gave a demonstration on freeze branding.
Dad, Mom, Nancy Jean, and I went down to the Leach Place to check. On the way, both rear tires blew out but we happened to have two spares. On the way back, we picked up Sandra and Sybil at the JO. We had a snack and then came home. Dad and I did chores and doctored a sick cow over east, getting in at 10:00.
