My journal entry for Sunday, October 27, 1968
Mountain Standard Time went into effect last night. I arose at about 6:30 and had breakfast. Dad already had chores done. I then bucked the wind and unloaded some iron from the pickup. After sweeping it out, I loaded on some creep feed.
I happened to poke around in the new shed and found the makings of a pretty good insulator collection. I gathered them up and had fifteen different kinds. They originally came from a phone line south of Bassett.
We all got ready to go to church. The womenfolk went to Sunday School, but Dad and I went out to the JO to goof around. Uncle Stan, Ken, Dad, and I had a good snack and then went on to church.
I went home with Uncle Stan's. After dinner, Ken, Uncle Stan, Uncle Joy, and I went down to look at part of the Ralph Arnot place. Uncle Stan is interested in 1700 acres on the south end. We hunted antiques and arrowheads along the way.
When we got back, we watched the last part of the Olympics on TV. I read in a book "Bygone Nebraska." I helped Ken do his chores, which consisted of milking a cow. Then we drew awhile before supper. The Iske family came to the JO to visit.
Dad sold 70 steer calves today for 32.25 cents per pound to Tom Hoffman from Nenzel. Max Wobig brought him down. Dick McConaughey went with Dad down to the Leach Place to look at the cattle.
