My journal entry for Sunday, October 6, 1968

Dad took pity on me and let me sleep while he did chores. I got up for breakfast at 7:00.

We got in the bulls and ran through about 20 head to horn brand. One wouldn't go in the chute, so we had to rope him and tie him to a corral post to get the job done.

Stanley Budd and his two sons, Jim and Kirk, came out from Rushville to look at bulls. They have not bought any as yet.

By this time it was too late to go to church. Dad and I slept until the womenfolk got home. Then we had a dinner of shrimp.

I took a bath and cleaned up a shade. Dad, Sybil, and I went to a 4-H meeting. The rest of the outfit stayed home as Sandra had a lot of homework to do.

The meeting was a short one held in the park. Everyone contributed refreshments after the meeting.

When we got home, the girls and I led our club calves around. We squabbled some, and my name was "mud" for a while.

We watched the "Smothers Brothers" on TV. I wrote a letter to Ilo Belsky about some Spanish Barb horses, but his price will probably be too high.

Uncle Stan found an old ring that was Great-grandmother Fairhead's engagement ring. She was engaged in 1888, so it is rather old.

Interesting- Ilo's strain of "Spanish Cowponies is quite rare now - I have two I own descended from Ilo's stock. One gorgeous buckskin who I got as an aged broodmare - and I just got a gorgeous grullo mare that is 3. I have been trying to locate Belsky line horses for breeding. Only know of one other current breeder at this time. Have only been able to locate two Belsky line studs. Am hoping to perpetuate his line. They are some fine horses. I have high hopes for my new grullo.....
