My journal entry for Thursday, July 18, 1968

I sleepily arose at the usual hour and had breakfast. We gassed up the pickup and did other odd jobs until we left for the Leach Place.

When we arrived, we got some tools and fence posts at the buildings. Then we went over and worked on the fence on the east side of the school section.

Lloyd dug, Doug set, and Dad and I tore out some old fence to straighten it out. We worked on this about all morning. Right before dinner, I set a few posts on the new fence line.

We ate our lunch in the shade of the pickup. The day was delightfully cool and breezy, so we didn't suffer any.

The afternoon was pretty repetitious of the morning. We about got the fence completed, so I stapled it up.

We left for home at 4:00, to maybe put up some hay if it was ready. Mom and the girls were in town, so Dad came home with them.

The hired men and I went out to the hayfield, but Dad had to pull a calf first. We got the 450 ready to go, and then I mowed. The rest of the crew got up one stack before quitting time. I continued mowing until 7:45, while the rest of them did chores.

Doug's dad, brother, and sisters came out tonight for a little while. Doug's mom took their baby to Rapid City and Denver. He has pressure on the brain, and is quite sick.

It's getting about time I started practicing Sassy for the district horse show, to be held July 24th.
