My journal entry for Thursday, July 25, 1968

This was kind of a "red letter day," but I'll get into that later. The first thing I did was to get up about 6:30 and have breakfast.

While filling a grease gun before going out to the hayfield, the darned thing "exploded." I cleaned up grease for about 30 minutes.

Lloyd and I went over to the mower on the south side of the meadow. We gassed it, changed sickles, etc. While greasing it, I noticed a main bolt was broken, so went home and got Dad. We drilled the bolt out of the tractor, and then I started mowing. I finished mowing one land and a stack yard, and made one round on a new land before dinner. The other guys put up two stacks.

At dinner, we watched part of "Art Linkletter." Then I read for a while.

In the afternoon, I continued mowing in the southeast part of the main meadow, but didn't get done. The stacking crew put up four stacks.

Mom brought out iced tea and later brought out our cameras. We whiled away quite a little time taking pictures.

We quit about 7:00 and came home. The rest of them did chores while I got in the horses and harnessed Crackerjack and Spot. After supper, the whole Green Valley gang turned out to break the team. The horses got all tangled up right away, and threw Dad off the cart. They finally lined out pretty good, and by dark were somewhat "wise." [This was a red letter day for me, because I'd been hankering to do this for quite some time.]
