My journal entry for Thursday, June 20, 1968
I climbed out at the usual time. We had a leisurely breakfast, as we didn't go to the Leach Place today.
I moved some cattle over east. Sassy mistook me for a mosquito and about kicked my leg off as I tried to get on. Then I hauled salt to where the cattle were and set up a back rubber. One of my accomplishments was to trip on a supporting wire in the granary, and fall flat on my nostril.
We took off the winch and loader from the IHC 450 to get it ready to put on the Kosch mower. Until noon, Lloyd, Doug, and I put in rake teeth.
Mom and the girls have been going to Vacation Bible School the past week, so us guys had to batch for dinner. I read and slept during the noon hour.
The afternoon was whiled away tinkering in the shop. Dad has been building racks from scrap iron and rake teeth to hold tools. Doug and I hauled junk for a while, and then I varnished our carpentry job. It was hotter than blazes, so we welcomed ice cream bars from town. We also took time out for several iced tea breaks.
We did chores at 7:00 and came in to supper. I finally got a letter to Franz [my Austrian pen pal] ready to mail.
The weather doesn't look too wonderful. The wind is blowing up a storm, and tornadoes are predicted for South Dakota.
