My journal entry for Wednesday, July 10, 1968

I groggily pulled myself out of my sougans at the usual time, clad myself, and went out for breakfast.

I sharpened sickles for a while, and then Lloyd, Doug, and I went up to the hayfield. Dad and Sandra came later in the green pickup.

We gassed up the IHC450, put new sickles in it, and then I started mowing. I cut some cockle burrs on the north side of the alkali lake and then took the outfit over to the north meadow.

I mowed the rest of the morning, in the south part of the north meadow. The rest of the crew again ran into green hay, so had to knock off after one stack. Sandra scatter raked while the others put up that stack.

Dad came up about 11:00. We put hydraulic oil in and greased the outfit. I mowed a round or two until Lloyd came to get me at noon.

We had dinner, and watched Art Linkletter while we ate. I read until 1:00.

Mom took the green pickup to Gordon after oil and parts. When she returned, I had a letter from the American Council of Spotted Asses of Fishtail, Montana, and a pen pal letter from Franz Zelsacher in Austria.

I took the car up north and mowed all afternoon. This was uneventful except the outside shoe of the front bar came off once.

The rest of the outfit put up six stacks this afternoon. Sybil raked. Doug has stacked all but one so far, and Lloyd did that one.

We came home, did chores, and had supper. A new calf came today, but so far is not too much to look at.
