the ones selling pasties, burritos, raffle tickets and fruit ....

when you say that they are selling "pasties" are you refering to the little sticker s that women put over thier breasts so they can legally walk topless down the street, or was that a typo and you meant pastries ??
just curious, cause if it is pasties, I am wondering what the hell that prep school is preping them for ??

HAHAHA....WHY AM I NOT SURPRISED BY YOU, JIGS!! GLAD FASTER HORSES PUT THE RECIPE ON HERE...THEY ARE WONDERFUL AND MAKE A GREAT MEAL THAT YOU CAN TAKE AND HEAT/EAT ANYWHERE..ANYTIME!! MY GRANDMOTHER USE TO MAKE THEM ALL THE TIME AND MADE "MINI PASTIES" FOR APPETIZERS FOR WEDDINGS AND FAMILY GET TOGETHERS!!

Jigs, you may have come up with the solution to the lack of motivation in our high school students. I could see your pasties being a very popular item for high school boys to sell all across the nation. :D
I think that as much as anything the lack of motivation comes with the lack of expectation. We were required to sell X amount of fruit or you were not allowed to participate in certain things. Kids today are not given any resposibility nor are the expected to be accountable for themselves(generally speaking).
As far as the parts store, I think that some business owners have the wrong attitude. I believe in supporting local businesses, but they have to be competitive. I don't mind paying a little more, but refuse to pay a lot more. I also get tired of holding these people's feet to the fire. I know what everything that I buy should cost, it irritates me to find out that I can buy a product cheaper 300 miles away and still pay the freight and be half the price. How can it cost a local business with a dealer account more than it cost me to buy from another retailer and pay the freight. I expect people to work for my business just as much as I work for my customer's business.

I know I have had to call the regianl office trying to find someone to buy girl scout cookies......use to be a leader so I kinda have a soft spot for them LOL
I miss the popcorn from the boy scouts.
I am an easy sell too since I dont have school age children and at work its all family and they have all sold to each other.....the parents have to do the selling here. I have had only 1 parent ask me to buy.....it was 3 years ago and I bought 6 poinsettias plants. I dont get it in this or I should say these two small communities with most being the same family why wouldnt you look for someone new?
I guess its like someone said they would rather write a check and not bother with the hassle. How many lessons are parents denying their kids from learning?

kids today, or society as a whole, it is an instant gratification idea. why wait? get the rewards NOW. I really hate the direction that we are headed... a liberal socialist idea of reward first, work late( if you want to)

I wonder how much of it is parents. As a leader here, parents just drop the kids off at the meetings and leave. I had to take all the kids out and sell just so 2 of them could earn an award because their parents wouldn't. It hurts them to see the other kids get awards and prizes and I can't stand that. And yes, these are ranch parents. Gasp.
One thing I that truly insults me is "I'm too busy" Yeah, ok, I'm not.
