You can't tell from these pictures but I have twice as many Angus as Charlois but the tags seem to stand out better on white so here goes.
This shows cow K5 When she was born to cow 23 in 2000 she was taged in the left ear with tag 0023 When she preg tested I cut the stem on her calf tag and using a new button moved it to her right ear and placed a cow tag back in the same hole in her left ear. Thus I can tell at a glance two generations if the animal was raised here.
The back of all tags have my farm address and phone number - - - this helped me recover 16 stolen finished steers and recovered a lost hiefer.
This shows cow K6 was born in 2003 to cow 24
This shows a replacement tagged K2 out of cow 8 born in 2002 She is all grown up now.
I tag all new females in the left ear and males in the right and if they go to market that is the last time I tag. I used the free 25 Ztags we got last year and lost 2 of them both found right at the feed fence. I tagged the rest of the calves with the Temple tags I have used for decades and all of those were still in place when the calves left. Sorry Ztag but the large button on the back side of the ear with Temple just holds better. I just have to reink the cattle about every 3 to 5 years with the temple - -- I have tags in place that are 12 + years old. The back side with the address is still readable but the sun fades the front.
