Nebraska Recruiting Slipping

Huskers were in the top 10 at one time. (Recruiting only)

There are more kids about to jump ship on the Huskers.

Many predicted this would happen. They still aren't settled on an offensive scheme and the kids would like some sort of reassurance.

When Nebraska's recruiting class falls below that of Illinois and Va. Tech, the future doesn't look so bright.

I don't put a whole lot into recruiting class rankings. Callahan was always top 10, look at his record. Notre Dame is always among the leaders, nuff said there. Osborne's Seniors of 1995 weren't even in the top 30, and they ended up with two National Championships. As a matter of fact, Tom didn't hardly have any ranked in the top 10 in his 25 years of coaching and he never won less than 9 games.

I would rather see a class full of 2 or three star kids who WANT to play ball than a big group of 5 star kids who feel they DESERVE to play, and wont EARN the right to play.

Snyder did more with kids everyone else passed on , and that , in my opinion is more rewarding than getting a bunch of prima donnas

Snyder was genious at recruiting bigtime talent that was unheralded. This year KSU graduates walkon All American Jordy Nelson - every coach that missed on Nelson should run laps.

I'm not worried at all about Nebraska's talent level; the real determinant for Pellini's success will be assistant coaches. I suspect a conversation about assistants was an important consideration in the hire of Pellini.

If I were saying, I think I like the West Virginia coach better than Pellini. Ofcourse I would have to defer to TO's judgement.

marcus watts was another walk on. and Terrence Newman was not looked at by many other schools....

I wish Snyder played a role in recruiting still...Prince has a different style and I am not sure he can find the diamond in the rough, let alone get 5 star talent out of a 2 star guy.

another great example iwould be any fullback from Nebraska from 75 to 95.

Amen on the fullbacks. T.O. would take a hard nosed running back from some Class C or D school, put them in the weight room, and then tell them to go run into a wall 50 times a game for Husker Nation - and they'd do it and love it.

Can any of you remember the Daum brothers from Dix Nebraska??
Played six man football and went on to be big players for Nebraska...
I'm sure they weren't in any ranking either....

I think it was Brian? that played when I was going to school there.

It was Mark. I was flip/flopping between Brian and Mark. Linebacker, played alongside Mike Knox.

There wasn't a football player in the class of 88 in Philip that wouln't have paid to go to Nebraska to be the tackling dummy, all for the good of Husker Nation!!!

Yeah, but our coaches are a lot better than KSU's. Good coaches turn 2 stars into 5 stars.

I would be the first to admit that mental attitude and maturity has a lot to do with college football and there is no way to assess it on a numerical scale.

But these rankings are based pretty much on talent and physical abilities.

You can't coach natural talent into a player. He either has it, or he don't.

The problem with the fall in the rankings is that other recruits are watching them very closely and will start to wonder why some of the higher rated recruits are changing their minds or haven't committed.

This too much of a drop in a short period of time to be normal.

I also agree that if these rankings were the tell-all in college football, no one but Notre Dame or Sou. Cal would ever win a game.

But these guys are pretty good talent scouts.

Did you know that the Steinkuhler kid is the only 5 star ever to come out of the state of Nebraska?

Good luck. It looks like you might need it...........

Here's some other kids from the state of Nebraska that weren't 5 stars, but turned out decent; Tom Rathman, Ahman Green, Dave Rimmingtion, Dean Steinkuhler, Gale Sayers, Kyle VandenBosch, ...."
