Turns out at my sons new place the wires at the well head that go to the Sub pump are either burnt or just broke off. We need to get it running to water some cattle. He plans to put in a pipe line supplied from this well and put in a new pump. When we go to pull the 185 feet of poly pipe with the pump on the end any ideas on how to hold the plastic pipe from slipping back down the hole?

Ours is about the same depth. We also have the pump tied with that yellow polyrope - the biggest that will fit with the electrical and your pipe. Guessing about every three foot we have the whole bunch wrapped with electical tape so that rope and wire stay flat and tight against pipe. Now if you get that jammed up in your casing .... good luck! This system has survived quite a few pulls for replacng pumps / fixing wires or cleaning the jets .... replaced the rope last year - I think that last one was close to 15 yrs old.

We've used the quad to pull and tie off on. The fella down the hole has to keep that mess coming out straight and at the same speed as a deaf bike driver ..... ummm maybe have someone at the top of the casing to relay 'messages' back and forth  Quad died a few years back but the two of us have pulled it easy enough and there is lots of other junk to anchor to when needed. After the first 50 feet or so .... there's a blackish snot that makes things slippery  You and Lane have fun bonding :D :p :D

Ours is 330 feet. Poly rope all the way down the pipe to the pump. Tied with the wires on opposite sides of the poly pipe with electrical tape every 2 feet or so. You can pull with the ATV and rig up a rim on a bale fork on loader to act as a pulley when doing the 90 degree bend at the well head.

Reason for wires wearing or breaking is likely due to the torque of the pump whipping the pipe against the casing. I would recommend running two pipes down, one for the intake and one to protect the wiring.

If you get a worn live wire touching the casing, it will turn the pump into a anode and ruin the pump by attracting charged sediment on and into it.

Sounds as though this could be used as one of those future wife test activities. :D

Remember BMR, you are a grandpa now. A crewcab load of prospective brides delivered to the jobsite may be all that you need to do. The last one helping when the job is completed will definately be ranch wife material.

Sorry I can't help otherwise, never had to pull a creek or spring.

The well should have pipe arrestors on it to prevent the pipe and wire from hitting the casings. You may well be better off running new pipe and wire to the pump just use the higher pressure rated pipe.

Borrow a grain farming neighbors swath roller to park over the hole to drape the pipe over, then pull with a quad/truck. That poly rope is incridibly strong, we pulled a pump that was a test for the loader on the old 1070. Spent some extra $ and put a smaller diameter pump back in. If you're broke off in the hole its a new well.

That's a tad drastic! I've fished stuff outa 8,000' wells---if you were broke off, you're inside of casing and you know exactly what you're fishing for---and any water well driller who's been around long can probably loan/rent you a tool.

Thanks for all the ideas. Probably this week we will get after it.

Gcreek, Lane says' that he doesn't know how far you have to drive in the Chillicotin to find a truck load of ladies but gas money comes into play down here. :D :D

The fastest would be the local rez. Probably 8 or 9 white gals between 16 and 22.

Pretty hard to find an innocent one of either kind. :?
