Yesterday afternoon Mr Lilly's brother was in a motorcycle accident. Just a lil after 5 pm. They had a hard time contacting the family because he didnt have his wallet with him, or lost it one in the wreck. He was ridin along, (way too fast from what we've been told) when a car in front of him stopped to turn in a drive way. The sun was really bright, so he may not have seen the tail lights of the car. That's not known. He didnt hit the car, but laid his cycle down on it's right side.....instead of kickin away from it, he hung on, and it righted itself, like motorcycles will do, then slammed him over onto the left side. He has major head trauma, no helmet, and they don't know if he's gonna make it or not, he was technically brain dead when he arrived at the hospital. When we got the the hospital last night about 11 pm, he was still in surgery. They removed a blood clot between the covering of the brain and his skull. Opened his skull up on the left side above the ear, peice about the size of an orange, the dr said. It's temporarily closed, but can be gotten back into if need be easily. The biggest problem right now is the jar to the brain. All kind of small fiberous nerve tissues get sheared when soemthing like this happens. All those nerves control all the different functions of the brain. As of last night, the drs said "IF" he makes it, he'll probably be in a vegetative state. His body temperature was down to 95.5 for a long time, and they were working to get that back to normal. His vital signs are good, blood pressure, etc. This morning he's running a fever. Earlier in the week he had pneumonia and was taking antibiotics for that. So I"m sure that's working on him too. They said the next three days will tell them alot on what the outcome will be. But if no change in three days....the outlook doesn't look good.
We need lots of prayers for him. He has a wife, and a 7 year old daughter and a 1 year old daughter. That's about all any of us can do, other than be there for her, and Mr Lilly's folks.

Oh, Lilly, this hits so close to home. My son-in-law was kicked, struck or hit by a horse (we were never sure which)in 1988 and he sustained massive head injuries.
Be strong for you are going to need a lot of strength right now.
I'll be praying for God's will to be done and for strength for you all.
These things are so out of our hands. Every brain injury is different.

:( Ohhh Lilly,I'm so sorry to hear this news.Your family is going to have some hards days and hard decisions ahead of them,my prayers are with all of you..Huge Hug

Things are looking some better. He's taking some breaths on his own. The way it was described to us is....the machine is set for 14 breaths a minute and he's taking now up to 24 sometimes. So he's doin some on his own. He's moving his hands and feet, and has eye movement. Vitals are still looking good. He seems to want his wife in the room with him. When she's there touching him, his blood pressure is great. When she lets go it spikes, and he strains against the arm restraints they have on him. At this point they are keeping him drugged enuff to keep him from fighting too much. But Mr Lilly was there last night watching his movements. And he said, "He's ridin hard" his feet movements and hand movements are what he'd be doin if he was on his bike. Basically he said, it's probably like a movie playin over and over in his head when the accident happend. Which makes sense. Dr's said this morning that "We just don't know why he's alive".....well....I"m a firm believer in the power of prayer. And wanted to take a minute to thank all of you for yours.
Thanks to all of you who've pm'd me. I read em all, but didnt reply individually.......just want you all to know we appreciate your support and prayers.
They are removing the breathing tube and other aperatus that goes in his mouth. And will put a trach in today, and a tube into his stomach to feed him. They said that's alot easier on the system than havin those huge tubes in his mouth. Alot of the swelling has gone down. They showed the skull xrays/scans to his wife and she said it looked like his head had been struck by lightening...that many fractures all over.
But we are so thankful for the good news, and all the improvement he's made in such a short time.
We are continuein to pray.....as well as everyone in the community, and I ask that all of you do too. He needs em.
Thanks ya'll

My thoughts and prayers go out to all of you.

same here.

WOW....just saw this. Good luck and pace yourself.

But, with all those skull fractures it just might help deal with and even out the pressure from the brain swelling he has going on.

People are tougher than you'd give them credit for sometimes.

Thanks Lilly for the update...Hubby and I were thinking of your family last nite, wondering how it was going...glad to hear that the little bit of hope will become a bigger piece of hope...Hang in there, it'll be a long road ahead...
