Toby Keith: Big Dog Daddy, hard to say what I like best, need to listen moer.

Gretchen Wilson: One of The Boys, not as good as her last albums.

All yer missin' is Corb Lund and you'd have a real good set of music to listen to! 8)

Corb was down in Nashville a couple weeks ago cutting a new one. They say he rode into the arena when he played the Ponoka Stampede last week George Strait-style.

He is quite a character isn't he? Sure warms the heart to see such a regular joe making a splash. He just seems like he's "one of us".

I had never heard of Ian Tyson before, then someone had the song "Juaquina to Freno" playing on a morgan website that my wife found, I ended up buying the "All The Good 'Uns" CD on Amazon or Half.com.

"All the Good 'Uns" by Ian Tyson is one of my favorite CDs of all time. Ray Price's "All Time Greatest Hits" is right in there with it. :-)

Ray Price, Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard came out with a new CD called "The Last of a Breed". I have been going to go to town and buy it, just haven't made it yet. I have no idea how good it is, but with these three it can't be all bad.

My Dad and you could go on a road trip together. I never knew who Ray Price was until I was older and went on some car trips with him.
Now I find myself looking at the old tapes because every once in awhile one finds one he loves there.

Corb's playing the Calgary Stampede tomorrow night. I guess they got a teepee or some such set up outsida Ranchman's. Wish I could go but I'm on the wrong end of the QE2.
Hope he gets a better deal than Prince Harry when he took a day off from soldiering out at Suffield and tried to pick up a shooter girl in Cowboys. She cashed a $30,000 cheque from a Brit newspaper for her tell-all.
When you are 22 and single - and maybe getting rotated to Afghanistan - isn't it your duty to try and pick up shooter girls?? Or have the times changed?

I can't think of any road trips your dad and I have gone on together, but we've known each other for a lot of years and have had some memorable horse trading times. One time your dad, and one of his sons and the son's girl friend showed up with a trailer load of horses. It was kind of a cold autumn day, as I recall. My oldest boy was about ten years old at the time, and I conned him into demonstrating the attributes of a horse that I was wanting to trade. Your dad had a good-looking roan five-year-old that I wanted kind of bad. He was priced at $2500.

Your dad's horses had been shown off and so had mine. The wind was blowing rather fiercely and it was pretty cold out. The trading had got down to the point where it was time to look down at your feet and scuff sand with your boots. A poker face and a non-chalant, "what's the hurry" attitude was also part of the parlaying. My son said, "Are you done with me, Dad? Can I go to the house?"

"Yes, I suppose," I replied.

Your step-brother and his girl friend vacated to the warmth of the pickup. Your dad looked at me and grinned, "Those kids don't appreciate the finer things of life, do they?" I had to agree. We both set in to trading in earnest. He didn't seem to be interested in my fine animal, but I was somewhat emphatuated with the roan. I offered $2000 for his $2500 horse. He tried to act completely offended, but said he'd take $2400. I said that was still too much, but I'd probably give $2100. When we got done shooting each other deals, my final offer was $2250, and his final price was $2275. Only $25 separated the completion of a horse trade, but we both stuck to our guns. The trade didn't happen. We shook hands, said our good-byes, and still parted friends. We had an enjoyable couple hours and it didn't cost either of us a thing, because he happened to be just driving by anyway. :-)

Thank you so much for the smile tonight Soapweed. As I read your post I recalled the numerous horse trading trips as a family I have endured and until tonight I didn't realize how I cherish the memories. I'll smile and let go a little easier when Dad is off to the sale barn or some other place and asks for a certain little boy with matching black hat , pressed western shirt, fancy boots and clean face to go along.

Saying that made me realize how the love of a child can make even adults do things they normally wouldn't. My Dad had to take a load of drys to the sale barn and asked the little one to ride along. Cowboy got all spiffed up for he was thrilled to get to go to the sale with PaPa. Walked out of the house wearing a black felt hat (keep in mind it's above 90 degrees and usually the men here wear straw hats). I watched as my Dad walked back in the house and switched his straw hat for a black hat so he and the little one would match. I saw the joy in this young boys eyes and the gentleness of a man I feel privlaged to call my father.

That is pretty neat. Your dad is a good man. :-)
